For some reason this video has provoked a running commentary in my mind!!  I think by now you all know my opinion of dog parks :( and this video just made me think "Yep!" LOL

It has all the makings of a good movie! Awesome GR (hero),  uncontrolled, ball stealing GS (villain), clueless handler, humorous camera man and possibly the most dismal dog park on Earth! OMD is there even a blade of grass anywhere? This must be Vegas???

What comes to mind when you view it?

What comes to my mind is that I would like to take those shepherds away from this clueless guy and his idiot boss.

"Has he had obedience training?" Well, duh, no...he was just born doing a perfect heel amidst major distractions.

And I don't know who was responding to him with the "It's okay, they're just having fun", but I kind of wanted to slap him, too. But I guess he was pleased that there were a lot of distractions for the Golden, including things that would cause most dogs (justifiably) to be reactive.

LOL! Yes, I agree with all of this!!

Who would ask a third party who obviously has no experience with dogs, to take 2 German Shepherds to the dog park? I can see why they don't respond to him, he sounds like a whimp.

Well said!

PS: Imagine that your job involved having to take your boss's dominant, poorly trained German Shepherd to the dog park!!!!!!

I know jobs are hard to come by these days, but...

Well, he didn't seem to even realize that anything was really wrong. He kept saying things like "that's not nice" to the German Shepherd! More like he was dealing with a naughty child than a potential killer! He sounded like a young kid...not sure.

I would be surprised if it hadn't been involved in some fights there at the park.

I worked as a protocol officer (as a civilian) in the Air Force for many years and then as an Executive Assistant to a corporate President for many years ... taking the bosses dog for a walk would have been a good day compared to a lot of the things I was asked to do and many of my friends were asked to do!

I find this funny because Bodhi would never be that interested in a ball!

It looks like the ball may be the training reward for the GR. Some dogs, like Tara, are motivated by food rewards and some by certain favorite toys. Tara would never be that interested in a ball either but show her a liver treat and watch out!! LOL

That Golden is so impressive....totally focused amid all this chaos.  I guess it proves you can take a well trained dog anywhere....it really doesn't matter how out of control the environment is when they know what's expected of them.

He really was amazingly focused!  Do you think a dog's ability to focus is somewhat genetically determined too? Border Collies always seem to be so intense and focused but TaraBear's don't seem to be!! :)

I don't really know, but I would imagine that the types of things a dog would focus best on are probably breed related....like a retrieving, hunting, herding.  I do think that focus in general is something that you train and reinforce with a dog.

Are your dogs trained to "watch" you or some similar command?  For some reason I have failed at teaching Tara to watch me. She can do all the standard commands plus dance, rollover, play dead, etc. so I know she is capable of learning! :)  But I can't get her to watch me on command. I don't feel like I have a good training technique for it yet. Do you?
