Any suggestions or remedies on ways to get a puppy to stop eating her poo? I have been picking it up right away and if I don't she while eat it. She goes right back to the spot she last went and looks for it everytime. I have tried putting pineapple juice in her food in hopes that it would sour the taste but it hasn't seemed to work thus far. Pretty gross, I know.

There are several owners here who have the same problem, so I am sure they will chime in with some suggestions. It seems that there is no hard and fast cure-all, and for some I think picking it up is the only answer. My DIL has a female whippet that does this and she has tried putting things in her food and it hasn't helped. Now that she is three, she doesn't eat poo every time she encounters it, but it is still problem enough that when all of the dogs are together, we try to keep the yard as poo-free as we can.
These are the modern-aged and eco-freindly dogs. It is called recycling.
Leave it to you Joanne - LOL
I still wouldn't want my doodle eating her poop but I know a lot of you feed eye boogers to their dogs as well.
Ha-ha. She must be making up for lost time and helping me recycle for all the years I didn't. I don't think she understands that the bags I use everytime she goes potty might not be eco-freindly though.
Don't use the juice, use actual chunks. Buy the ones that are canned in their own juice though, no sugar. Keep picking it up as quick as you can. Cooper used to do this when he was young and I found that the pineapple chunks helped. He seemed to want to clean up after himself. He got so he wouldn't do it in the yard, but if he had an "accident" in the house, he would try and clean up the evidence. Thank goodness, that phase is long passed. There is hope for your puppy, if you keep at it.
hmmm Zoe doesn't eat her own poop but likes to eat racoon poop (racoons come into the yard at night because of all our fruit trees). I can't feed the racoons pineapples and I don't know how to rid of them. So it might be worse =P
I had a Shih Tzu that ate her poop, I called her the "recycler" - LOL. I tried all kinds of things to make her stop by adding things to her food. Nothing worked.. except for picking up the poop ASAP.
I believe it was on "The Dog Whisperer" that Cesar suggested bananas for this problem. It is really a gross habit - hope that you can find a solution.
Maybe send a message to Sue, Murphy, & Bella if she doesn't chime in here. Actually - Sue got her doodles from the same breeder as you so maybe your breeder has some suggestions. I'm sure they have discussed it before. I know she has struggled with this issue with her Bella. She may have some good suggestions. I have seen some stuff sold at pet stores for this, but admit I really didn't pay much attention since I don't have that issue. Good luck!
