I hear you about the fleece! I went on a mission several months ago to remove anything fleece from my house because I couldn't stand it anymore :)
Fleece is my favorite fabric, I live in it. So I am always covered in dog hair. It's a look. :)
DH has a pair of fleece pants that he refuses to give up. He will wear them when we take the dogs for a walk and I am embarrassed everytime he does it because from the back he looks almost as furry as the dogs! I have learned to deal with the dog nose prints on my front windows, but can't get over my obsession with fur free clothing :)
I really do think this is a pretty common misconception. I always tell people that my guys are ALDs and they don't shed, but that is not always the case especially with the "early generations". As for the temperament, if my guys are with me they usually don't ask....because Murph always gives a very clear demonstration of just how naughty Doodles can be. LOL
I always say "technically some of them don't shed and some of them do. Mine don't shed in the same way that a lab would but yet I still find black hair on my khakis and cream hair on my black dress pants and a nice mix all over the seats of my car." I then go on to inform them that shedding dogs make thing easier because I have to spend so much time keeping my two mat free and clip them and blah blah blah. I can pretty much say the whole thing in my sleep now. I wish I had a dollar for every person who asked about the non-shedding.
My response to that is "I could make a doodle fur coat out of what Hunter sheds!" LOL My breeder was very upfront about the shedding so I didn't have any illusions of a nonshedding dog.
I get stopped every time we go out "what breed of dog?" is usually the first question followed by that coat must take a lot of work"? to which I reply first that Riley is a Labradoodle and then have to explain what that is and then I tell them that he is non shedding but that he needs a lot of grooming to prevent mats and to comb out his puppy coat. Anyway by the time they have finished with me I'm sure lots of them are sorry they asked!!! : ) I like to give them all the full version which can make our walks a staggered and interrupted affair.
Great answer that would be "It's a 50/50 crap shoot!"
I think we have at least one defective one too then!!
There really is a Goldendoodle/Labradoodle myth circulating about non-shedding. You're right about it being a crap shoot at best. And another thing they don't realize is that if you don't have shedding then you usually have mats. Which is an entirely different (and not fun) story... I was excited to get a dog that didn't shed and Tara doesn't but holy cow, no one mentioned the amount of maintenance they require!
Your babies are perfect!! :)
I also have a non-shedding 90 lb. goldendoodle. He is an F1b, but has a beautiful coat and it is non shedding. My smaller, 50 lb. ALD sheds some, but basically mats. I like that as I am trying to cord him. People are starting to recognize them when we are out and about, but seldom ask about the shedding.
