Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

After meeting Nancie and Graciedoodle, and Gina, Kona, and Buddy at the beach last week and admiring the ease of after-beach care their doods had, I decided to task our groomer  to cut Ned and Clancy short - really short.

We agreed that Clancy's bulky build needed a bit longer look than Ned's poodle-type build.  Clancy is tons shorter but the overall look is still 'fluffy' doodle.

I got what I asked for  and I I hate it.  What was I thinking?  We spent the time brushing and combing Ned constantly through the matting phase and beyond. If I was going for a short look, I should have done it then.  Ned's body is so shaved down. If his coat wasn't so thick, he would truly be naked.  I wish his body coat was as long as she left his legs.  I will not be taking  pictures of my beloved Nedderbudder for quite a while because I do NOT want to remember this moment.  Ned even acts like he is in trouble, slinking around.  Sadly, he won't need brushing for a long, long time.

I like this! Scruffy cute look!

Oh, don't worry about it too much.  They grow out quickly.  We cut Groucho's face this morning, but not the rest of his body.  He had a bad reaction to the anesthesia when he had surgery on his back side and his teeth cleaned.  We ended up shaving his face, tail, and feet.  It took a while to grow out, but it does.   Glad you got some photos so you can remember what that groomer did.  Actually, I like Ned's look, Clancey's face not so much.

We used to keep Ted's hair long - but ends up we can't keep up with the brushings (wool coat), and actually prefer a shorter cut. Ted has such a handsome silhouette and soft curls that emerge after a few weeks are cute.

Kathryn Ted is beautiful!  He looks very serious in that pic though!! LOL

Kathryn, Ted is beautiful that way.  Ned's coat just is not.  He looks like a bad poodle with a Schnauzer cut!

It would be nice to have someone like Barb available to blend the cut a bit.  It is so individual, and we all have our preferences as to how we want our dogs to look. I personally think your dogs continue to be gorgeous.  I have noticed with mine, when we got a less than desirable cut one time, that in a week or 2 things changed dramatically. Thankfully, they do grow out pretty quickly.  They both look like just a little professional touch could make the difference pretty quickly, and then the grow out would be even. Now, finding someone to trust! It is so disappointing...the idea was a good one.

Ned's new 'short' cut still hasn't taken his cutness factor away.  Ned looks like he really styling by wearing UGGS.

Love the UGGS part.  He and I could match!

Due to a lot going on here I decided to do a way shorter cut on Jasper than I usually do. As well he has started digging for mice for entertainment so I figure he will be in the bath more. He is so happy! I have never seen him this happy. Obviously his big coat was a drag for him.

I also had to shave...I mean shave naked one of my boys. He also is as happy as a clam. He had been swimming in his water pail every chance he could get. He has stopped doing that and is prancing around outside like he was king of the hill. I think the only ones that really hate the short cuts are the owners. lol

We were careful not to laugh or point at our short dudes and made sure they got lotsa rubs and compliments.:)

I agree Barb, Tara is the same way when she gets a short cut! And we are careful too not to send her any negative vibes about her looks!  Glad your boys are enjoying theirs!

Ned and Clancy got used to it but both really seemed different, however they had never had short hair before.  Now that it has been 2 1/2 months, I love the length it is and will take them next week for a bit of a clean up and blending in of the 'muscle' legs.  Our groomer said she left Ned's legs that way because she knew we would hate skinny legs on him, and she was correct, I just wish she had blended them.  Now she can.
