I was just bitten at the dog park . . .

Nothing major - I just washed it and put first aid ointment on it.  The dog that bit me (of three Puggles - I'm not sure which one) is up to date on shots so I'm not worried.  It was so strange - I've always heard that you should never jump into the middle of a dog fight but when that dog(s) went after my baby - I never took time to even think.  I ran about 15 feet and literally took a flying tackle onto Stuart and kept right on rolling taking all 70 lbs of him with me and out of harms way.  During the leap and roll one of the Puggles chomped into my thigh.  In an ironic twist I didn't have on my usual outfit - a tennis or golf skirt - I actually had on running tights to below my knee - saved me from a worse injury, plus cellulite is hard to puncture.  I've never trusted those Puggles and now know that my gut instinct was correct.  One of them attacked Stuart over a ball and the rest jumped in.  The owners feel bad but nobody actually saw it get started so they aren't going to accept any real blame, and all I know is that Stuart is so gentle and unassertive but when attacked he went into defense mode to protect himself, a real 1st.  It WAS a stupid move on my part but without thinking I was willing to do whatever it took to protect him just on instinct.  I think tomorrow that I'm going to be sore from head to toe.

Not a hero - stupid maybe - that could have been my face - lol - end of my modeling career - not.  But never in my life did I ever do such a thing WITHOUT a thought.  Instinct is a powerful thing.

Oh Jane! Darn those Puggles!! I would have been right there with you though! My first instinct (no thought involved) would be to protect Tara!  It looks like a doozy of a bruise is forming! :( So sorry!

Ouch, that is a tender area too!  When I was getting a fence installed, awaiting for the arrival date, and at the time only had my non doodle, I would take her to the dog park so she could run.  We were usually there by ourselves.  Well a bout a week later we arrived and a large mixed dog was there, and I thought , oh good Mitzie will have someone to run and play with.  I had Mitzie on leash and wanted to introduce the two dogs when the other dog lunged at Mitzie.  I got twisted in her leash, but managed to put myself between the two of them.  The owner finally called off his dog, but I took several bites to my wrist and two fingers.  I was shaking so bad, Mitzie was crying, then I was crying, I yelled back to the guy I'll never come back to a dog park.  My fence was finally installed, and Mitzie and Pebbles have a nice yard to play in.  I think we just don't want our babies hurt, and it's our motherly instinct to protect them. I bet you'll feel that bite more tomorrow, sorry this happened to you.

I am sorry Jane. I recently stopped taking Beamer to the dog park because even though he is huge he is submissive and gets picked on way to much. Beamer always does a stop, drop and roll. We now have lots of play dates. I would have done the same thing to protect him.

Jo - this means so much to me!  Beamer being Stuart's full brother you understand that he does NOT have a mean or aggressive bone in his body.  He was attacked and then he defended himself.  I'm worried that there might be bite marks on him too that I can't see.

I should have left when I felt the bad vibe upon arriving
But foster loves to play so in we went

Get his dog yelling I shouldn't hit his dog!  Really folks!

He had had it and fought back but it was all so unnecessary.
But no more dog park for me.  Too many irresponsible

Dianne, I'm so glad that Foster is okay! I think you are wise to avoid the dog park unless you know the dogs and owners and can be certain that Foster is safe. It's just not worth it in my opinion...

Sorry to hear your story. But many of us avoid dog parks for these reasons.
