i should just point out that right now my choices are  Trupanion, Pet Care, Spca, Pet secure. Cherry Blue

Pros and Cons.

Trupanion 34.94 plus 11 dollars for hip displasia for all accidents and illness CON- deductable at 500 dollars life time coverage ends a 20,000

PetCare 34.95 covers up to 2,000 for accident injury CON- only inculdes 7 areas for illness (cancer) (digestive) (nervous) (eyes) (ears) (infectious diseases)

Spca 42.95 covers all accidents and illness for 2,500 a year CON is that enough?

Pet Secure 46.61 covers 2,500 per accident and 2,500 per illness per year CON 300 dollar deductable

Cherry Blue 44.05 covers all accidents and all illness with 80% reimbursment and 200 dollar deductable CON 20,000 lifetime coverage

Thanks! if anyone has any insight on which would be the best deal and what they get from there pet insurance id love to hear it!

I have my insurance form Presidents Choice.

Most of the Canadian pet insurance companies are underwritten by the same company - western financial, so the only main difference is premiums

I have a claim in right now with PC, heres hoping they are as good as I hear they are.

I have the highest plan, so that I am covered for hip displaysia, and other expensive illnesses and accidents

Ultra Plan:

$5,000 per incident on veterinary services

$5,000 per illness, per year

$350 for alternative therapy, behavioural therapy and medical devices per year, per category

Premium
$39.36
monthly, tax included;
$100 deductible per illness/accident per year (for an ongoing illness you only pay the deductible once per year)
80% reimbursement

Play around with the breeds too - poodle mix was more expensive than lab mix for example

id say that PC is much better value that the ones you have listed!

Thank you so much! i just tried the PC now and its 53 for a Standard poodle mix and 46 for a lab mix! that is a good trick! lol

Not sure why mine is still a bit more then yours but it is still at 46 dollars conisderably better then the others i have mentioned before. Now the Ultra one it doesnt say what it includes, just says per illness per year. And also would it be  example: 5,000 for ear infection and then 5,000 for say eye infection per year? or 5,000 for all illness all together per year?

I think location is taken into consideration in the premium.

Yes, it is $5000 for ear infections, $5000 for eye infections etc

thats pretty good! i just acually signed up right now! im glad im done with all this research!

Yea! that's what I use too :)

have you ever had to put in a claim? hope not! but if so i hope they didnt give too much trouble

i have a claim in right now - i mailed it off a few days ago, i will post in here if and when i get money...

Hello! how did the claim work out?

hopefully good:)

I've submitted lots of claims. I had trouble at first but I think it was my vet clinic who was sending the claims on my behalf, because they never seemed to receive them. Once that was sorted out things went pretty smoothly. I've gotten a lot of refunds. It can be disappointing to see what you get after the $100 deductible, and the 20% co-insurance, but it's better than nothing. I've had a lot of vet bills so my total ball park guestimate is that I've broke even. But if anything ever serious happens I know having the insurance will be worth it!
