Dakota has Gastroenteritis or Hemangiosarcoma im so sad and scared.UPDATE.

Im beside myself right now and ready to pass out from this.Dakota is at the vet over night tonight and im freaking out.She started throwing up  yesterday and wasnt drinking her water as much as normal.and not playing as much and she has the runs. Then this morning she wouldnt even go near her food bowl.So i rushed her to the vet and they thought she might have a blockage.i told them i keep my house and my yard puppy proof and there was no way it was a blockage. They did the tests and i was right. No blockage. Then they found out she has an enlarged spleen. If its Gastroenteritis then they said its her spleen working overtime trying to fight off and trying to keep with the infection and flu like symptoms. But they also told me not to rule out Hemangiosarcoma.CANCER.My mom died from lung cancer 2 and a half years ago and i got Dakota to help me get through the loss of my mom.How ironic or something like that. They have Dakota on an IV right now and I feel like this cant be happening right now. That im having a bad dream.Ive never had to go through anything like this with any of my dogs.I try to imagine life without her and it hurts so much.Im trying to keep it together for Ozzy but i cant.He is really smart and i think he knows whats going on in a way.He feels really bad for me and is sad too.The vet sent away blood samples and will have the results tomorrow sometime. Its going to feel like forever. It already has. Please convince me that its just Gastroenteritis and not Cancer.

Good news Dakota has Gastroenteritis and not Hemangiosarcoma. Now i know she doesnt have cancer anywhere in her body.Other than having Gastroenteritis she is very healthy as they did all kinds of tests on her.So its like killing 2 birds with one stone. She is going to be on antibiotics for a while and she is very sick still. She just lays there and doesnt want to to anything but she will be fine in a few days and back to her crazy bouncy self. She isnt throwing up anymore and no diarrhea and she is eating again. So all is good.Thank You to everyone. You really helped me alot and i love all of you very much. You helped me to think positive and I did after reading my feedback from you guys.I also stayed strong for Ozzy and Dakota. So again thank you everybody.

OMD! I am doing a happy dance for you and Dakota, Ozzy too! Yippee Yahoo! I know you are going to have a long and happy life together.

Wonderful to hear the good news.

That's great news!

So glad to hear such good news.  Get well soon Dakota.

Jared, I am glad it is not cancer. I hope Dakota is feeling better soon.

Great news!   Thanks for the update!

Thanks for the update Jared, glad Dakota will be ok

Jared, I'm delighted to read this, I'm not surprised you panicked when you were given the possibility that it was cancer by the vet. Hopefully Dakota will be back to her normal self in a matter of days.

I'm so glad to hear that Dakota has a treatable short term condition! Thanks for the update! Hope you are feeling better too! :)

Jared, I've been thinking about you and Dakota.  I'm so happy for the good news, but sorry the she's still so sick.  Is there any improvement today?

I'm thinking that Karen will have some thoughts.  This is the time of year that my Murphy gets bad environmental allergies.  He is scratching and biting himself like crazy.  I wipe his paws down after our walks to get rid of any pollen, and the Vet gave me a spray that seems to help his "itchy spots".  On bad days I give him a 10 mg Claritin (he's 55 lbs).  I really doubt this is a food allergy with Dakota....it sounds more like a seasonal allergy thing like Murph.  I'm just so happy to hear that she's feeling better and back to playing again.  Great news.

Hi, Jared! I'm so glad Dakota is feeling well enough to play! That's great news!

About the shedding and itching, it could very well be simply seasonal. I live in South Central Texas, so our seasons are very different from yours--and I could be mistaken!

If you want to switch to a grain-free food, Blue Buffalo has a new line called Freedom, which is grain-free.

But, if you have reason to believe she has a true food-sensitivity, you might want to try the Blue Buffalo Basics line, which are limited-ingredient formulas.

Personally, I'd wait to see what the vet advises before you change her food. If you decide that changing the food is a good option, you might want to stick with Blue Buffalo since Dakota has done well on it.

Nothing against Orijen, of course! Cosmo has eaten nothing else his whole life!

Best of luck with this!
