I get my new puppy in thirteen days and I'm trying to pick the perfect name for her! Did all of you have a name picked out before you got your new puppy? And if you did, did you keep that name or did you change your mind after living with the puppy for a few days? Maybe I'm obsessing for nothing - maybe I should just stick with the two names I've picked and hope that the perfect name just comes to me when I hold her for the first time?

I love the name "Finn"! I should tell my grandson - who's obsessed with sharks! His other grandma fosters for a rescue group (they call her "puppy grandma") so maybe he could name one of them!
Finn is gorgeous!
Wendy, what names have you chosen. We love name the puppy games. I don't know if anyone has chosen any of our suggested names but we do have fun with the suggestions. I see your previous dog's name started with a Z, so I am going to throw this one in for you. Zaya, it is a Mongolian word, it means destiny and/or fate... it is mostly given to girls as first name.
I like that - thanks! So far we've come up with "Riley" and "Brandi" - My DH likes "Riley" the best only because our previous dogs names were Kara and Zak and he wants a different vowel sound. I like both, but just wondering if I should forget about names until we actually get her!
Both of those names a are cute. If you like both and can't decide, I would wait until you meet up with your puppy and perhaps spend a couple of days with her.
Nice name Donna
We did have our name picked out beforehand and we stuck to it. Maybe we might have held off if we hadn't managed to stumble on a name that our entire family of 5 actually agreed on (nothing short of miraculous!). And I have to say, I still like it. It suits him. It sounds though like you might enjoy getting her home and then coming up with the perfect name. The good thing is, the puppy won't mind either way!
We picked out Luna's name on the drive home after picking her out. We were both thinking of sky-related names (in our heads, completely coincidence) and my fiance came up with Luna and it stuck :)
My advice for naming:
- Make it something you don't mind saying over and over
- Make sure you don't mind yelling it in public places
J, I agree with your advice about picking a name that you feel comfortable yelling in public places. We have lots of names that we call Knox in private, several of which may offend someone who doesn't know us!
I am pretty sure we call Fudge and Vern the same names :) LOL
Public yelling of names is exactly why we changed Clancy's name from Buck.
We wanted to name a dog Tucker. My husband vetoed it on the same grounds. hahaha!
