Has anyone flown a doodle before? or sent one?

I think I found a pup that we want to get and we want to have her flown out from Atlanta to LA.  Does anyone have any advice or specific knowledge?

My puppy was flown from West Virginia to NYC.  It was not a direct flight and had to go through Detroit.  It was a very windy day/night (in fact it was the night the Continental flight crashed in Buffalo).  Her Detroit flight got cancelled and she was put on another one that was also delayed.  The airline had a "special" dog service and I believe she was treated fine but I would never do it again.  I should have flown there and taken her back in the cabin with me as she was still small enough to do that.  Lola never liked her crate and I think the flight had something to do with that.

We had our new puppy flown from Colorado to Pennsylvania in March! 1st let me say, our new puppy, Wicket was a surprise to me from my husband. We had been looking to adopt a dog more our Wheelers size ( he just turned a year old), but we just couldn't find the right one for our lifestyle. So, he informed me to quit looking, that he had a deposit on a puppy, all I knew is that it was a male & it was brown, everything else he wanted to be a surprise! I didn't know until the day we were picking him up at the airport that he was being flown! And thank goodness, I did not know before hand because I was an absolute nervous wreck waiting for him! The plane he was on wasn't landing until 4:08, & we got there at 2:30! It was the longest time ever! Needless to say, we were told that he would be out after all the luggage was out, well to our surprise, only about 2 bags of luggage was on the belt, & in she walked with our Wicket! All the passengers waiting for their luggage were more interested in our litltle bundle, than waiting for their own bags! All in all, he was so excited he came right out of the crate, he only had 1 pee accident, & he still had plenty of water( they froze his water dish, so it would melt slowly, & he wouldn't drink all at once)! BUT to do it all over again? Absolutely not! I don't care how far, I will fly out & bring him back with me under my seat, that way I can watch over him! Other than that, my husby did good, he is the most polite puppy I've ever met & I wouldn't trade him for the world! Wicket & our Wheeler are the bestest of friends!

My new puppy Mila was flown from Chicago last Wednesday to Newark, NJ. She was flown in the cabin on the lap of an elderly couple that "nanny" the puppy for the flight! That is just the way the breeder does it since she doesn't like them to go in the cargo compartment.

All in all I would not take a chance.  Too many variables especially with such a long trip.

I'm still wondering the age of the dog?   So many doodles are in need out in CA.  Have you ever thought of fostering for a rescue?  Doodle Rescue and IDOG are both desperate for fosters.  As are all rescue organizations. If you find a compatible match then you can adopt the dog. If not, you find the best possible home with the help from these organizations.

So many in your area.  Give it some thought

AirTran and Delta fly non-stop flights from ATL to LAX, but I have no idea how well they do with pets traveling in cargo.

Many have mentioned Continental's good reputation for flying pets, but they were recently acquired by United. Many things have changed with the acquisition, but I don't know about the pet policies.

If the puppy is small enough, I would personally feel safer flying to Atlanta and flying back with the puppy in the cabin.

We purchased our puppy from a breeder-family in Kansas and they were just amazingly knowledgeable and professional about the preparation and requirements for shipping a puppy  . . . Our guy arrived happy and relaxed.  Scott really made sure that our guy's experience was positive . . .

I would bet that he would be willing to answer any questions about paperwork, temperature, booking flights, etc., that you might have

Mooki went from some small town in Kansas through Denver and into San Francisco.  Perfect!

These other people are way too alarming!  If you trust the people you are getting him from, and armed with additional information, you should have no problems at all.

While I understand that advertising is verbotin (which I agree with) I wax attempting to give David an informational resource for any questions he might have shipping. Scott no longer breeds; hasn't for 4 years or sells but had great transportation knowledge. I think it is important to be educated on a topic and not just take someones word. Sorry if I caused a fuss.
