Another great lens, although not a telephoto, is the 100mm macro. I luvvvvv this lens!
We never see you anymore. I hope that just means you're busy in a good way.
I was just thinking the same thing yesterday F! Hi Linda! I'm sure you're busy, busy with your new endeavor! One of these days I'm going to buy that macro you rave about.
I'm still here - lol! Life has been a whirlwind the past six months with lots of exciting challenges. Things should settle into a more comfortable pace in the next couple of months. I hope to be able to participate in photo assignments again soon. :)
BTW, it's fun to be able to see your beautiful faces, F and Carol! (Not that your dogs aren't gorgeous, too. ha!)
Thanks, and you look just like Toby: ) I am glad to hear it's been exciting challenges that are keeping you away and I look forward to your return.
I'll be watching to see what people suggest, I'd like to do the same - without breaking the bank.
Elizabeth...
You mention wanting to get a "stronger" telephoto lens. Unfortunately higher power lenses are also higher in price. In fact, there isn't any decent telephoto lens that approaches the EFS 55-250mm lens in price.
The next upgrade would be the 70-300mm f/4-5.6 family of lenses. Canon and Tamron both have lenses in this focal range that are somewhat more expensive than the 55-250mm. Canon has also come out with a 70-300mm f/4L IS lens which is a wonderful piece of gear but is pretty darn expensive.
Three other lenses which are a "stronger" than your 55-250mm are the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS, Canon 300mm f/4L IS and the Canon 400mm f/5.6. Any of these lenses are great for wildlife but, they are also very expensive in the area of $1,200 - $1,400 (give or take a hundred or so dollars).
I would not recommend the Canon 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS lens. Although this lens is relatively inexpensive and is longer than your 55-250mm lens, the quality it produces is not up the the standards of the 55-250mm.
There are, of course, the professional sports and wildlife lenses from Canon which run into the several thousands of dollars.
If someone doesn't have a telephoto lens, the Canon 55-250mm is a great lens for a very inexpensive price.
Thanks for this info Richard. I'd been considering the Canon 75-300. You've put that to rest for me!
Yikes!! I just ordered a Canon 100-400 today!! I'm excited but it did cost my heart and soul . . . I was able to buy it refurbished from the Canon Direct Online Store--had to wait a few weeks for availability but I saved a couple hundred dollars. Now I need to learn the camera , , , smile!!
Wow, enjoy.
NICE! I'm so excited for you - how fun!!!
Congratulations...have fun with it!
