it just keeps surprising me everyday there seems to be a different brand

It seems that way, but the original Diamond recall reports listed all of these: Solid Gold, Canidae, Wellness, Chicken Soup, Canidae, Natural Balnce, etc...all the foods owned or made by Diamond. No new brands, just a lot of separate press releases from all the various companies.

I have a question... Jack and Molly are on Natural Balance LID.. Molly goes in between Chicken and Duck and Jack is just on Duck.. it seems all the flavors but these two are on the recall list from Diamond.. Does this mean the Chicken and Duck are not from Gaston SC?

I feel like I am holding my breath waiting for their flavor food to come on the list... and I am super upset with the whole thing anyway.... I just don't feel comfortable with any of this and don't know what the solution should be.

Well, they make 13 different dry dog food formulas total ( 7 LID formulas), and only 4 formulas (3 LID plus the vegetarian formula) are on the list. So I'm not panicking yet, and I'm going to continue using the Sweet Potato/ Chicken Formula, although I am looking for alternatives.

I didn't realize they made so many different choices. I can't cook duck for Jack but I have bought a ton of Stella and Chewys freeze dried duck that I can use as a meal for him and add potatoes but it s not a great plan because for Jack the high protein rips his guts apart...that is why I like Lid and I substitute some extra freeze dried duck to boost it up!

I've been following these discussions on the food recall...I feed Seamus and Stella TOTW.  We live in New Jersey and purchase the food from a local store in Hazlet, NJ.  I do not have the actual bag the food came in because we keep their food in a sealed tupperware-like container.  I know it was purchased between Dec and April (which I thought were the dates I've seen in many articles).  I just read something on Yahoo (I know not the most reliable..but still..) that said the recall was now expanded to NJ because people became sick?  Do I throw the food out?? I obviously can't return it...they've been eating it and are fine...we are fine.  I am honestly most nervous because I have a 3 week old at home and don't want to risk him getting sick if the dogs lick him after they eat.  What are those of you from NJ doing with your food?

What bothers me is the timing of the notification.  The bags of Canidae we have expire several months after the dates in the recall - leading me to believe they probably already finished bags within the recall dates.  Something terrible could have happened and we wouldn't have known the cause until way too late.  I'm thankful everyone is healthy in our house but don't know what to do for a food choice going forward - they stopped liking Fromm and love the Canidae.

I agree!  For those of us with very large or multiple dogs, we go through food fast!  The dates in the recall have come and gone and I know that my dogs could have absolutely consumed contaminated food, (at least according to the dates alone).

But so far, they have not pinpointed any contamination in any of the foods themselves. The contamination is in the plant. Dogs with normal immune systems are pretty resistant to salmonella and even if you had gotten a bad bag, it may not have affected the dogs. The danger is to humans and dogs with compromised immune systems, and the recall is really for the sake of humans. To date, there have been reports of 14 humans who may have gotten salmonella from the food (not very many when you think how many bags of these foods have been sold) and no dogs.

Hope this makes everyone feel better.

This is not the kind of problem like the 2007 melamine recalls, or the Chinese chicken jerky, where there are long-term or lasting effects.

Yes this is NOTHING like those recalls.  If it gets any worse, we will consider removing these brands from our recommended list, trust me.

Kim, I'd give Fromm another try. There are sooo many formulas, you can rotate them and the dogs stay interested. They have added some new formulas just within the few months.

Just an update / FYI for those of you wondering what to do with your recalled food.....I called the store I purchase my food from (it's a smaller, local store in Hazlet, NJ...I feed TOTW) and I asked them about the recall and explained to them my situation.  I told them that I don't have the actual bags because we store the food in a container and I also told them about my 3 week old son at home.  They told me to bring the actual food in to the store (obviously without the bag) and they will replace it.  I'm assuming I will get some kind of credit or bags of a different brand because I'm guessing they pulled TOTW from their shelves.  I'm so happy they are being accommodating..and I'm actually pretty surprised!  I'm in New Jersey, so according to some articles the recall applies to me, and according to others it doesn't, but regardless, it seems that some stores will take back the food either way.  =)
