Hello doodle owners and pups!

Quick questions: Has anyone had their doodle receive the K9 influenza vaccine?

I dropped Abby off for her first doggy daycare experience. I felt the parent of a kindergartner. She just walked off into the play area and didn't even look back to say goodbye. :( Thankfully the facility has webcams, so I have been watching her. And she will only be there for half the day. Anyway, back to the vaccine. The daycare rep said it is an optional vaccine, but it good to have especially if you like to take your dogs to daycare, dog parks or have them boarded.

Just curious if others have had experience with this vaccine.

Thanks,

Kim & Abby

How great for Abby to be secure and brave enough to go in without you.  This is a great tribute to you.

Cosmo goes to doggy daycare and no one has recommended it to us. BTW..he loves going, too. We can hardly keep him from running in as soon as we walk through the door.

I've been watching Abby on the daycare's webcams. She seems to be loving it. Of course, she is finding it more fun to play with the humans than the other dogs. But it is a new environment and it is good for her to get out there and mingle.

I haven't heard of that vaccine.  Good for Abby, being such a brave girl!  When I've taken Trav to daycare, he'll mingle with the other dogs and humans for a few minutes, then just settles down somewhere where he has a view of the gate and waits for me.  I've watched him on webcam, and after that initial check of the environment, he does nothing but wait.  It's really a waste of time and money to take him to daycare unless I'm going somewhere I can't take him.

I am in Florida and my vet also highly recommended this shot. We take Shiloh to daycare and board him when vacationing, if we cannot take him with us. I did have them give the shot and he had no adverse reaction to it. He said there is a problem in this area with that virus-not sure about other states.

My dog goes to daycare here in Pinellas County and he never looks back at me. The other dogs start barking for him and he runs off and plays. I was kinda annoyed at first by his independance but at least I know he loves the place.

My vet told me that our doodles don't need the shot unless we are going to be around dogs coming from other areas outside of our state. He said there are very few cases of the flu in our area, but it is in other places. I would just talk to your vet. If there is a lot of K9 influenza in your area then you might want to consider getting the vaccine for your doodle.
Congratulations on the daycare situation. Paddy now goes to a home daycare and is picked up from our home after we leave for work. He seems to be very much at home with them, but always anxious to see us. I tried a larger, well known facility and the exec director called me towards the end of the day and said he was suffering from severe separation anxiety and that she was very concerned! It was 3:30 in the afternoon and he had already been loaded into their van for the ride to my office. I was very upset when he finally arrived at 6:30 and he was traumatized. Since then he gets very anxious if he thinks I am going to leave him somewhere. BTW... Everyone that meets Paddy loves him!
