Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I took Harpo to his obedience class last night and as I was leaving the ladies at the registration desk asked me if "that dog" was registered.  I assured them that I had registered him last week.  They said they had my check but no papers on "that dog".   They asked my name and pulled up the papers on him from two years ago when he was in the puppy class.  I checked the papers and said, "Yep, he is that dog."  When I had registered him as a puppy, I told them he was a labradoodle and they put his breed down as a lab mix.  They responded, "But there is no lab in that dog."  I see why the confusion, but I think they are so into the purebreeds that a "mixed breed" like a labradoodle just floored them.  The trainer, however, recognized him immediately.  She had two questions for me, "Is that a labradoodle?" and "Does he like water?"   The hall was filled with briards, standard poodles, dobermans, and two beautiful afghans, Irish wolfhounds, shephards, and many smaller dogs.  But the way they said "THAT DOG" made him sound less than acceptable in the obedience class.  Luckily I have a very thick skin and like that old mule who was being buried alive, I just "stamp down the dirt, shake it off my back, and rise to the higher level".  Ever heard that story, Laurie?

Harpo must be Jackdoodle's other half; I'm often told "There's no poodle in that dog." LOL

I like that mule story : ) And Harpo looks like a fine doodle/dog to me and who care? He is yours and he is Harpo and that's all that counts!

Agreed!

I thing "THAT DOG" is pretty fine!!!

I get the exact opposite here. People have stopped me and asked - is that a labradoodle? Why didn't you get a rescue. I think people totally look down on purebreds and any form of doodle. It's annoying.

Moe - I just love it when I am asked about my Stuart.  Is that a Goldendoodle?  Yes I say - he is a rescue - you should see the looks on their face.  Kinda shuts them up.  LOL

People will say the most unbelievably rude things to perfect strangers. I would say "what business is it of yours?" and walk away. Nothing gives them the right to judge you or compels you to discuss your life with them. (Sorry for the mini-rant--as you can probably tell this is a big pet peeve of mine.)

Lynda, I haven't ever heard that story...LOL!! Sounds like a snob to me or maybe that person is the mule/j******...LOL!!  Great picture!!

Not that I have anything against labs but I prefer labradoodles over them....oh and of course goldendoodles more.

Pshaw!

"That" dog is gorgeous...Maybe she was jealous!   Obviously she was ignorant of just what a Labrodoodle is.  They say ignorance is bliss...ignorance is also rude.  Brings a whole new meaning to dog snob!  Personally, I'd rather have a doodle than any pure bred dog.  Although there are many many wonderful dogs and great breeds, I find doodles appealing in every way... looks, personality, smart, loving... what more could you ask for.  You're the winner... they are just ignorant!

Back again!  Just thought of something else.  In the world of people, that person would have been called a bigot!!!

THAT dog is truly  beautiful for any dog to be, plus he is a wonderful representative of doodledom.  How RUDE those ladies were, but at least your trainer isn't.
