Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Since I have been a member on DK, I have learned so much useful information and a lot about members’ dogs.  I know about the illnesses that afflict some DK doodles.  I know which dogs are picky eaters and which ones have poop issues or behavior problems.  But it dawned on me, that with a few exceptions, I don’t really know much about the humans of DK.    Many of us recently stepped out of our comfort zones to post pictures of ourselves on our profiles, but there is no lasting record of that.  I know that DK members are compassionate people that are truly invested in the lives of their doodles, but what makes you tic?  Who are you when you have to step away from DK and enter the real world (the horror!!)?  So I challenge you to give us a little info about the person behind the dog.

I’ll go first.

Name: Amy

Location: Dyer, IN (35 minutes outside of Chicago)

Generation: Millennial   (http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2011/05/living/infographic.boomer/in...)

Birth Order: Oldest of 3 kids – the only girl

Family: Husband, no kids

Education: Purdue and DePaul

Occupation: CPA – I work as a tax analyst for a Steel Mill.  I hope to work as a Business Officer for a Public School in the near future; I want to feel like my job actually matters.

Biggest Fear:  I have a phobia of grasshoppers.  Yes, I know they don’t bite or anything but they just really freak me out.  They blend into their surroundings and when you least expect it they jump/fly around…yuck

General: super organized, sometimes impatient, a planner – not a spur of the moment type of person, shy – I much prefer to sit back and take it all in rather than be the center of attention, obsessed with details, cautious (I was going to list the craziest thing I had ever done, but then I couldn’t come up with anything so I had to leave it out!), and incredibly sarcastic – but I swear, I am NOT as boring as I sound!!

If I could have any pet (that isn’t a doodle), I would love to have:  A big fat penguin – one of those cute cartoony looking ones.

Addiction: A new yogurt place recently opened here (called Red Mango).  You go in and fill up a cup with as much or as little yogurt/soft serve ice cream as you want and then you can top it with all kinds of great toppings (candy, cookies, fruit, choc syrup, etc).  I have become an addict, especially now that it has gotten warm outside.  I go there at least once a week, and I’m sure it will get worse before it gets better.

Random Useless Fact About Me: I have eaten oatmeal almost every weekday morning since October 2009

Guilty Pleasure TV Show: Sister Wives -- I have no idea how I got started watching it, but now I am hooked.

It is has been a long WINDING road. After graduation from Drake I worked for state government, one of my duties was planning municipal conferences, I LOVED it, an election happened, I needed to find a private sector job, went to work for a PR firm (my minor was journalism) and also got to work on planning events, but I wanted to get my Masters so I got that but realized government was not where my heart was, event planning was, decided to use my MPA to get a job at a non profit, and then start my business at the same time. Thought I would be doing corporate events but fell in love with weddings, I LOVE what I do, it just took a long time to get there! Kind of work off the philosophy of Joseph Campbell-"Follow your Bliss"

Pinterest is the biggest waste of time most awesome website ever. When I am on it I tell the DH I am doing research for my clients, which I am but…if you want an invite sent to you message me privately and I will send it out!

How cool that you are a wedding planner! I love Pinterest too...

Allyson, I don't bake (unless it is from a box), but I LOVE to eat food that has been baked from scratch.  Maybe I'll come down for a visit  :)

A few years ago I tried to convince my DH to move down to Nashville because I am more than ready to leave the Midwest winters, but I guess my powers of persuasion weren't too good because we are still in Indiana.

10/3... how exciting!!! Although in the past I've only been interested in large/giant breeds, I've been thinking a lot about toy breeds lately. So cute, but portable. :-)

There is nothing I love more than people who have guilty TV pleasures.  You had me at "Sister Wives"...

I am a born and raised Pacific Northwesterner (grew up in Spokane, WA- now live in Seattle, WA)

Had a brief stint as a Californian when I attended college at University of the Pacific in beautiful Stockton, CA.

Attended graduate school at Seattle U. where I earned a Master In Teaching. That lead to the logical step of being a teacher (a lot of twists and turns in my life story so far, don't you think?) I was an elementary teacher until I had my first child (Oh yeah, somewhere in there I got married).

Fast forward: I have been married for 20 years to an incredibly devoted, awesome husband and dad.  We have three kids ages 17, 14 and 7.  I was a stay at home mom up until last year when I started substitute teaching at my daughter's school.  Last fall, I was hired as the Children's Ministry Director at a Presbyterian church- a part-time position. So now I am a mostly stay at home Mom with two, flexible part-time jobs.  I am thankful every single day for all of the above!

I have so many TV guilty pleasures, it would be embarrassing to list them all.  However, I only tune in to this mind numbing fluff when I am doing other productive tasks like folding laundry... Okay, okay... I'll admit to a few: Giuliana & Bill, Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis and for some reason I still watch Will & Grace episodes even though I've seen them all a thousand times. I also have a bizarre dark side that is obsessed with Law and Order in all of its various casts.  Truly odd since I am a complete scaredy cat who is known for being nothing less than a ray of sunshine (according to me).

Random other useless facts: I am a Shutterfly addict and have all of our family photos up to date and in photo books.  This is part of the reason I don't have time for a full time job... and why there isn't always dinner on the table... or clean laundry...

My daughter went to UOP in beautiful Stockton...  Go Tigers!!!!

Yay! Go Tigers, indeed! I'm taking my son down there this summer to look at the school.  It may not be the premiere California location but it's a pretty campus and I had a great experience there.  My parents both went there too so if he were to end up there he would be a third generation Tiger! No pressure though... :)

My brother and SIL live in Bothell, WA and both work for Microsoft.  DH and I really want to get out there for a visit because they keep saying how pretty it is, but finding the time and reasonably priced flights has been a challenge.

Do you just watch regular Law and Order or do you also watch some of the other versions?  DH and I always watch LandO SVU -- my parents got me hooked on that one.

LOVE L & O SVU, which is really bizarre because that is usually the most twisted, yucky cases. Yet, somehow, I get sucked in every time.  I mean, who can resist Ice T as a dramatic actor? ;)

It is pretty here.  Otherwise, who on earth would live here with our crazy weather? :)

Amy, it's perfect because your H has summers off (ish)...you could come in August - it's beautiful here then :) and bring the doodles! Road trip!

Laura, would you want to drive cross country with 2 dogs?  The car ride would be fine, but Bob Barker (aka Cubbie) would probably get us kicked out of any hotels along the way.  :)

I keep telling your brother we need to try staying in a pet friendly hotel just to see what it's like in case we are ever in the position where we have to, but he hasn't agreed yet :)  Riley would probably be the annoying one for us!
