Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I just read that some labradoodles may be in a shelter near Kamloops British Columbia. I don't know any deatils. I just noticed a thread on a breeder forum. If anyone is looking for a pet there may be dogs looking for a home.

"Several quality breeding Australian labradoodles have been put in this facility. Looks like they were from Avonlee labradoodles. I do not know why they are there and don't know if this is a kill shelter or not...Can anyone help and find out who is in Canada?

I have just sent this to my sister who is in Vancouver BC.  Too awful : (

i have posted it in the vancouver group and the canadian group. i have also sent it out to the vancouver doodle meetup group

Good.

Word from the shelter is that they have already had many inquiries on the dogs and feel confident that they will all be placed in good homes. They are not in any danger and there is no risk of their being euthanized.

Good news!

phew!

I just read Karen's post and got goose bumps!

I heard back from my breeder, Barb who has put the word out about the doodles. She says she was in touch with Ann from Avonlea today. She is having severe health issues and was pressured into giving up her dogs. They are all in great health, have all been fixed and should be scooped up pretty fast

Sad news about Ann, good news for the doodles but you wonder why it had to be through a shelter.

Kaytlin,
Any reputable breeder experiencing severe and ongoing health issues would, at the least have a contingency plan in place during times of illness, for the quality care of dogs in her charge.  This clearly was not in effect at Avonlee.  This is not the first time dogs from Avonlee have been seized by the SPCA - see link below.
As with those rescued in 2009, the latest arrivals were not in great health at all.  Then as now, the dogs were described as, unkempt, unsocialized, thin, and sufferring from muscle atrophy.  Unfortunately, this description also fits with a number of dogs purchased from the breeder.  I am presently trying to ascertain which shelters are responsible for overseeing the rescue of dogs coming out of Avonlee.  My aim is to raise funds to assist them in their endeavour to end the sufferring there.  If you, or any concerned DK members are interested in helping by organizing a sponsored event, please contact me on DK.

I'm sorry to hear that Ann is having such severe health issues that it has come to losing some of her dogs. If the situation in B.C. is anything like it is here i the N.W. then they should be adopted fairly quickly. I hope the shelter has a good screening system in place.

Now that little Rikki is awfully cute and I think that I have seen him or her here on DK before because the name caught my eye! I was thinking about what confusion would ensue if we became Ricki, Tara and Rikki. :)  Hope little Rikki and the others find wonderful homes! :( So sad.

LOL. All chaos would break loose! :o)
