Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
My sister just contacted me and asked me this question. My BIL and her are considering taking one of the dogs from the BC shelter and this is what she wrote:
Just spoke with the SPCA. It was an irresponsible breeder. Dogs came to them matted and with ear infections, very shy and nervous. Very undersocialized. They had not even seen a car. We would be interested in Rikki or Cassiopia. Is a 9 month old who is not fully house-trained a bad sign?
I am hoping that some of you who foster doodles can chime in and offer advice here. My sister is home all the time and they have an older well behaved doodle who is used to other dogs. She is willing to put the time and effort in but needs direction.

Glad everything is ok at your house, hope your sister can turn a doodle around. Wish them luck!
I really hope this works out for your sister & her family, and also for one of these doodles!
Exactly the kind of dilemma I fear. But I do have a neighbor ot two who will help if need be and some family and friends who would do waht they could. So I have multiple Plan Bs but it is scary. Aand yes, breeders have it even tougher.
Nicky, my fingers are crossed for your BIL and SIL. I hope they adopt one of those doodles!
I had tried to reply last night and something got messed up...anyway, BEST wishes to your sister and brother in law. I think this will all work out and just like others said, 9 months is NOT old and the puppy would probably adapt well in a new household, especially with an older, well behaved dood leading the way. This will work out....
Several of the doodles are not showing on the Adopt A Pet page this morning. I only see Hannah and Katie so maybe the others have already been adopted?
I hope Nicky's family calls before making that long drive.
I hope so too because it sounds like it would be quite a long trip for them.
Kudos to your sister/BIL for being willing to foster one of these dogs. Sure sounds like a win/win for both people and dog. I don't know anything about the breeder, but have known people who have taken in 'old' pups and had it work out very well. How scary for you to be away when your partner was away too! Sounds like you have a good support system for Riley. Funny that Riley was just dozing on your bed through all the excitement. :)
Nicky, I wish your sister good luck in getting one of these dogs, if she decides that she wants one. I am sure it will all work out for the best.
Not sure if anyone mention this or not. Depending on how fearful the dog is, I would keep either 2 collars & leads on or a collar and harness. If they have a fenced in yard use at least a 15 ft drag line before going off leash. I hope everything works out.
I forgot that, Tina, thanks. Very important. This kind of dog often bolts.
