Hello!!! i am about to go out today and get my Chloe a new collar or harness. It is now kind of urgent as lastnight i took her to my sons soccer game and she was just so excited about all the kids that she pulled so hard her collar buckle came undone! didnt even know that was a possibility.
She is now 4 months old and weighs approx 23 pounds, and what i really need is something that i can have more of a handle on her when she is in this obnoxious state of mind (oh gosh i sound like Cesear).
She is generally a great walker and only ever pulls when there are people she "Needs" to see! at which i am trying to figure out the best solution to fix that little problem aswell:)
Leaving soon for the pet store so i hope i get some ideas in time!
Thanks everyone!~

With young pups like yours, I like to start out with a halti or a gentle leader head harness. It is not the most attractive thing on earth, but it is usually temporary. It fits on the head and wraps around the snout, and when you gently tug the leash, it tightens around the snout, and makes them look up, helping you to establish eye contact. When walking, they cannot pull you ahead or pull back from behind, and they stay in a good heel position. It is easy to put them in a sit. When the harness tightens gently around the snout, it has a calming affect for them. I even have them drag a light lead around the house from the halti or gentle leader so I can correct more effectively any puppy nipping, etc. Some dogs don't like them, so invest some time before you start to use it just putting it on the face and rewarding and let them wear it alone before you attach a leash and start to use it. It can be hard to fit correctly, so I always bring my pup to the store and have them help me adjust it correctly and make sure I have the right size.
I tried the gentle leader on in there store. Well she tried it on haha and i just didnt like it for jumping, it didnt feel right to pull her face basically and she still tried to jump.
the gentle leader won't prevent jumping but it will allow you to give her a more "gentle" correction. Since any correction on the leash will turn the dog's head away from whatever it is pulling towards or jumping at, it should take less of a pull to get her to do what you want. You will still have to train her not to jump by keeping her focused on you and putting her in a sit/stay though. The gentle leader also prevents hurting a dogs throat during a correction.
We use a gentle leader on Ollie and he still sometimes gets reactive when we see another dog on leash and will pull and buck up but it is much easier to correct. I just have to tell him "no" and then turn and walk in the opposite direction and he has no choice but to follow. It is similiar to leading a horse using a halter. You turn the animals head and that is the direction that the body must follow.
I just saw that you bought the prong collar so you can ignore my info about the gentle leader :)
