Up until a couple of weeks ago, at the most, Hurley appeared to be very socialized. Then he started barking at people and/or dogs, hesitating to the point of hiding behind one of us if anyone came up to pet him. He even hesitated around people he sees just about every day. But he seemed to recognize their voices.
We had a chance to see his trainer for a few minutes and the first thing she said was he cannot see because of the hair in his face. She said to cut back the hair between his nose and under his eyes. I was trimming it a lithe occasionally but not enough it appears.
So last night I trimmed it some more with a scissors. This morning when my DH took Hurley for his morning neighborhood greet and meet walk there was quite a difference. DH said it was like night and day. Hurley didn't bark at anyone or any other dog and didn't seem so cautious about everything.

This is very interesting. I think you should post it in The Grooming Group, too!
I know he can be controversial, but this is a big thing with Cesar Milan. I have seen a couple of his shows where he first did a face trim on a dog so they could see better before starting training. Sounds like there definitely may be something to it!
