Well, July 17th is the date for Lucy's surgery (Dr. was on vacation 1st two weeks of July). DH and I have decided that since she will be laid up for so long that it might be hard to keep her combed out so we should probably cut her down quite a bit before the surgery. So yesterday I took the first step and gave her a haircut. I took her shorter than I've taken her before, but think that I might even take her a little shorter yet before her surgery. A little nervous about that, but I'm sure it will be best for her.

We add Aquashade pond dye to suppress algae growth. We also run the pond aerator for several hours a day during the spring, summer and fall. In the spring we had quite a bit of algae growing on top of the pond so we used a pond rake to skim it off. It helps that we have a spring that feeds the pond too.
Do your parents do any of the things I listed above?
She looks really great!
She looks great! You do such a great job with them.
She looks gorgeous! You did such a nice job.
Kona has a very similar coat, and I keep him a bit shorter than Lucy. Since she will be going through so much in two weeks, it might be worth taking more off. When I groom Kona he stays mat-free for six weeks at least.
Lucy looks great! This cut really brings out the blue in her coat.
Funny that you say that cause I'm all the time saying wow, Lucy looks blue today! Their Mom was a Blue Poodle, but I haven't really read up too much on what that exactly means. She looked sort of Salt and Pepper to me when we met her. But Lucy's skin sometimes really seems sort of blue ish.
Lucy is blue. Blue poodles have blue skin, and when they "clear" (go from their black puppy coats to their adult color) they go through a period where parts of their coats actually look brownish, especially around the ears and heads. I can see a hint of that in Lucy. Looking at her, I would call her blue; she isn't a faded black, and she isn't silver.
I think my next dog might be a blue poodle. I think they're stunning.
Thank you for explaining this Karen. I've never owned a poodle. I didn't (don't) understand the blue vs the fading gene things that have been mentioned on DK. Kona's poodle mother was blue. When his color started changing it looked like grey threads in the black. I started calling him pewter. As I look at him right now he is definitely not salt and pepper, he's blue! I knew he had blue skin but again, didn't know what that meant. Is faded black when their feet seem lighter??? Kona is close to the same color with darker areas around his neck and tail, brown around his face. I guess I am not a particularly observant person. I'm changing my profile page to reflect this new found information on my dog. ;o)
Bonnie -- There are pics of your Kona on your page that if someone transferred to my pics I probably wouldn't even notice it wasn't Lucy they look so much alike.
It's fun to see look-a-likes!
They even have the same beautiful brown eyes. I love Kona's eyes. It's time to groom when they get lost in his fur.
I just took a Therapy Class with Sophie and there was a poodle in there that I would be willing to bet was a Blue, but the owner didn't really know what it was. It was the most beautiful, stunning dog I have ever seen. I mean I've seen big dogs, cute dogs, adorable dogs, but there was no other way to explain this dog than just absolutely stunning. You should have seen it prance when it would run across the room. Coloring was very much like Lucy but it was cut in a poodle cut. It was taller and thinner than Lucy, but the personality was even a little like Lucy. I don't think I would hesitate to have a Blue Standard Poodle if it looked like that one. I also found out in the class how much these Standards loved their people. They wanted to sit on their laps. We had three Standard poodles. Two I liked and one I didn't.
She looks beautiful.
