Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I don't know if I posted this before..  this is my Doodle in a "Schnauzer" cut.  I like the shaved head/ears and it's easier to maintain and I just keep his coat brushed out.  The groomer wanted to take the body down shorter and thought it would look better without a "skirt" but i kind of like it.  Chaucer is slightly grown out now but what do you guys think of this cut on him?  I've never seen another Doodle with it!

We are about to get  Doodle #2 but this one will be light golden in color.  Do you think this same trim would look all right on the lighter colored dog?

Well, in all honesty if you hadn't told me it was a schnauzer cut I don't thing from the photos that I would of picked up on it.  I just didn't think it showed up that much.  Having said that, I'm not sure I understand why the groomer went in that direction.  I personally like a fluffier doodle, but I think that the black ones in particular look good short but even then I still like a little length left on top of the head.  That's just my opinion though.  That's the great thing about doodles, you can cut them however suits your likes and needs.   Chaucer is adorable though and it coat looks very soft.

Murphy had an accidental schnauzer cut last summer.  I cried for weeks and never used that groomer again.  it took 9 months for his ears to grow back.  Murph's cut was also a really bad schnauzer cut.....a schnauzer would have hated it.  Murph is also not much bigger than a miniature schnauzer and he is light in color so it just did not work.  Your pup looks  gorgeous although I prefer hair on the ears.

I like a fluffy doodle too, but he spends more time in the water than outside of it!  It seemed his head/ears were always matted and the rest of his body was mostly fine.  I'm pretty good at keeping his legs brushed out, so she thought that would solve my matting problem, or prevent it all together.  I think that's why she suggested it.  Normally the body is clipped even closer..that is a few weeks of growth after the groom.

Your doodle is incredibly beautiful! Thanks so much for posting photos. That coat looks like mink (I'm old and my great aunt had a mink coat).

Wow, what a gorgeous coat! Personally I like the head and tail longer. I've found over time though that I am cutting Tara's coat more in a functional way rather than for looks at times, especially in the summer. It sounds like this is partially what you had in mind too.  If you look though DK you will find just about as many different cuts as there are doodles! LOL It is really just a matter of personal preference and what fits into your lifestyle whether it is on a black or blonde dood. Best wishes on your new doodle too!

Why not?  If you like it, that is all that counts.  He looks great and his legs and body are fluffy.  Only the head is a little different than you usually see on a doodle.

Your doodle is a gorgeous guy, regardless of the cut. Personally, my tastes go toward longer ears and tail, and the top of the head rounding into the ears (okay,, a real 'doodle' cut), but I love the length of his legs. Whatever you like is the way you should have your doodle groomed. We keep our Lucy's body trimmed quite short (like 1/2") year round. I just don't care for the longer coated bodies (nevermind the fact that Lucy's hair would mat terribly with anything longer). It really all just comes down to personal taste. Thanks for posting the pic. I'd never seen a doodle cut like a Schnauzer before.

I took my labradoodle to the groomers last week and ordered "boot-cut" for his legs.

When he was done, I thought his body looked a lot like a Schnauzer :) He still has the doodle head though.

Here's another view from the back. Like boot-cut jeans, the cut is slimming and elongates his legs :)

I really like this cut. Looking good!

I'm sorry, but I can't help looking at this last photo and thinking Chewie is asking, "Does this cut make my butt look big?"... :)

Oh I like this cut - my puppy doesn't have a lot of hair on his ears (they aren't all curly and fuffy) so this would work well for him.  I like longer eyebrows and beard as well and Stan has the wirey coat of a schnauzer so IF I were ever to get him groomed and not just keep him brushed, this is the route I would go.  Chauncer actually has more "fluff" and curl than Stanlee.
