Lucca is 2 1/2 years old and Izzy is 8 months......

When I walk in the front door, of course they get excited and want to greet me. I know the older dog needs to be greeted first. I know all this!!! The problem is.... They are both excited and Lucca will calm and wait to be petted. Izzy also wants to say "hi" BUT instead of greeting me, she starts attacking Lucca by jumpnig on him and biting his face and legs. And all Lucca  wants to do is to say hello to me!!!. Today I put her in the kitchen behind the gate until I said my hi's to Lucca first. But as soon as I let her out she immediately goes to him and starts the biting at him again.  I really want to change this behavior. Suggestions????? Do I repeat the process and put her back in the kitchen until she calms?

This is one of the issues that seems (to me) the most challenging with having two dogs. We are finally getting the walking down, thank goodness. A walk (which we do 3x/day) really wasn't "fun" for awhile:)

You're describing Mochi and Latte too!!!! Latte jumps and attacks Mochi all the time, especially when we come home, it's actually pretty annoying to see that! I think we'll try letting Mochi out to porch or garage to greet us first and leave Latte inside.

Oh boy! Have we dealt with this problem!  When anyone comes in the door, this is what they are met with...Kachi runs to get a toy, which he proceeds to bring to you, moaning loudly, doing the wiggle butt dance, which causes Halle to keep jumping up, barking wildly, and biting at Kachi's head the whole time (Sounds like Izzy likes this move as well!)!

My remedy to diffuse this pandemonium is to completely ignore both dogs. I mean I just walk right by them, without acknowledging either of them.  After a few times of doing this, now when I come home in the evening, they hardly go beserk at all, and if they do, when they see I am ignoring them, they calm down really quickly.

PS: I feel you on the two dog walk problem!  It was ridiculous for a long time!

Liza, that's what I've been doing for the past few days...ignoring them and it seems to work, thank goodness. They also do this right before the morning walk. Lucca is on the floor with his head and butt up in the air and Izzy is chomping on him. I now j=have a treat handy and make them do a sit/stay just to get their leashes on. Oh boy, 2 IS a challenge but I still love it and it truly is getting better.

Joyce, hang in there!!!!!!!!

i sorta have the same problem, but not greeting at the door. my problem is when we are walking, everything is going fine and someone in the neighborhood speaks to me or the dogs, they start the vigorous puppy play (i don't view it as agressive because this is how they play, but walking is not the appropriate time) and if i try to get things under control, inevitably one will come out of his or her harness or collar and then things are really out of control. am is 11 months and Eloise just turned 2. it is Sam that starts it every time. i'm wondering if he will outgrow this

They will:) I posted this a year ago and Izzy still does it a little but I find if I ignore them both they settle. When we're walking...if they start what you say yours are doing...I bring treats and immediately say "focus"(we've been working on that word. They both stop an go into a sit/stay. They grow up:)

I know what you mean.  I think I would ignore them until they were separated and then go to one dog at a time.  My ALD (younger) is the more excitable one, but Groucho also loves a little time on his own.  Harpo will jump on him and agitate him until he growls and bites at him, but it seems like negative reinforcement to me.  After they have settled down they are fine with each other.

thanks for all your posts. we are getting a second doodle this weekend. Lilly was born 6-11 and Lolly (our new addition) was born 7-11. Lolly was the breeder's dog and was not able to breed because of hip issues, so we are getting her instead of a puppy. I am just reading up on anything that will help bring a new dog intot he household of princess Lilly.
