Went to our lake house last week and had to kill 2 three-foot Rattlesnakes; they were each heading for our garage. The snakes "visits" were 3 days apart; both around 10am. I heard this was going to be a bad Rattlesnake year in California . . .

Dakota gets the Rattlesnake vaccine but I would just as soon avoid the bite so I've been checking out Rattlesnake avoidance training.  I found a nearby training that just happes to be next weekend--what luck! Training programs aren't often easy to find . . . I'll post our training experiences in case anyone else has snake issues.

Wow, what a scary experience (times 2).  I am anxious to see your post on the Rattlesnake avoidance training.

I wouldn't need rattlesnake avoidance training, I'd just have to move!  :o)  I think Nancie of Nancie and Gracie have taken this training if I'm not mistaken!

Gracie takes it periodically I believe : )

OMD, there goes my lake house envy. Good luck with the training.

I'm with you. Rattlesnakes heading for the garage? Woooooooo, I would be so out of there, lol! I can barely stand to see garter snakes!

Worms are as close to snakes as I can go!

In the winter we have Cougars . . . They don't generally come into the community but every year someone sees one or two . . . I'm not overly concerned--in the 25 years I've been going to Eagle Lake, there has never been a report of a Cougar attacking a dog, but it is possible. There are plenty of deer and that is their preferred meal . . . The other concerns are minor. Last week, in addition to the Rattlesnake incidents, a ground squirrel broke into our house and ate a good part of a 5 pound bag of peanuts . . . Then the little brat had the brass to sit on the deck and look in at us after we got home and discovered the pile of "shells"!!!

Too bad the cougars don't eat rattlesnakes : )

Scary!  There's a rest stop along the Columbia Gorge that has a sign by the restrooms--Watch for rattlesnakes.  Believe me, I watch!

I'd never have to pee that badly!  :o)

You mean a sign like this. This is what we saw when we left the Ramapo Reservation a couple of weeks ago. Of course in the back of our minds we know they are there.

and there were others warning of ticks:

and bears. No wonder we stay home a lot : )

Eeeeeek!!  Methinks that is TOO MUCH bewareness!
