Trixie has never jumped on people. never. It is very nice.
Well last Thursday on a walk we stopped to talk to someone & Trixie jumped on her. I was very shocked- she has never done this.
She again did it when friends stopped over the next evening in our house.
And last night on a walk she jumped on the 2 women we stopped to talk to...Not right away.
First she did the shy submissive walk ...Then she rolled on her belly to be pet. Then she sat up & was fine...And all of a sudden she got excited & jumped on one & then thee other....
My husband had the leash (he is 10 times worse at training then I am & I am not great) So no correction was done. He didnt even notice she jumped on them really : (
I did ! I tried to give her a correction...But it was kind of belated...She also had an Easy walk harness on...Not great for a sideways correction.
Im just kind of surprised she is starting to jump at this age...And not happy about it either.

Both my doodles are jumpers and I hate it. Oliver is big and is 80 lbs and my Sasha is 50 lbs. I constantly work on this but it is crazy the first couple of minutes when someone comes into my house and then all of a sudden it is like someone turned off the switch everyone is calm. I have been working on having Oliver sit and once he is in a sit position then I will let someone pet him. It is a constant work in progress thing with me and my doodles.
First I would not let anyone approach her unless she was sitting and calm. At the first sign that she's about to jump, I would firmly correct (verbal and with a collar correction). I think the real key is that she never gets the opportunity to jump, even if that means quickly turning her around and taking a few steps in the opposite direction. Then when she's calm try again. When she finally stays calm and sitting for the greeting...lots of praise (but you'll need to keep it low key so she doesn't get excited all over again). Unfortunately with the Easy Walk Harness that would be difficult....do you ever use any other type of collar?
I have not had success with any collar with Trixie. Previously I had used a
OMD! So Spud is a jumper also! My ALD is terrible, but does not jump on people at obedience class. He is worse when Groucho is around and when we are out walking. I am taking him back to obedience class tonight and we can work on that some more. Groucho, at 90 pounds, does not jump on people (thank goodness) but he has one friend of mine that he greets in a most unusual way. He jumps up in the air and licks her on the mouth - doesn't touch her body, just licks her mouth. She is in her seventies and thank goodness a dog lover. But this is such a strange greeting. She walks with us frequently so turns when she sees him coming but he does get her every once in a while.
I also am not giving up. Gotta get this under control.
We call this kissing! :-} Seriously though, Ned sometimes jumps up and nosekisses the cheek of someone who is greeting him. It is not a good habit but we haven't been able to squelch it totally.
My doodle Magnet is a jumper, although she has gotten better, she still does it at almost 3 yrs old...She knows who she can jump on and who she can't, she isn't stupid. I have many elderly relatives around quite often in and out and she is gentle as can be with them, but let one of my sisters walk thru the door, WATCH OUT. My other doodle Smudge, isn't a jumper, but shes a hopper. She trots alongside company, hopping and prancing, nibbling on their fingertips lol
My trainer that I used when Mags was a baby, said EVERY doodle she in had in class was a jumper..and she seems to think it comes from the retriever. I've known several retrievers thru my life and only knew of 1 jumper. But that was her opinion
I have 6 doodles total in my family, and I have to honestly say Magnet and my sisters doodle Daisy are by far the worse. Its aggravating I do know this, but I am having a hard time breaking it too, so I'm looking forward to reading everyones answers....Good luck
I have had 3 FC Retrievers. 2 were very jumpy & yes planted Kisses. Although they never jumped on me. the 3rd had great Manners.
So with Trixie I was thrilled that she wasnt a jumper...Just surprised it has started now- kind of out of the blue. I dont like my Dogs jumping on friends & relatives. Alot of them dont like it either
