Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
That's right folks, Amish Puppies are for sale at bargain prices. I live just one county down the road from 1,000 and 1,000 of Doodle Puppies! If I drive an hour south, I can get you a doodle for a lot less money!
Who could resist buying a puppy from good, God-Fearing Christians?
It's time once again to remind our newest members and those who are looking to get a beautiful puppy not to support the Amish by purchasing a puppy. While not to harp on this subject we should bring it up once a year. You know, kind of like that mandatory safety meeting we all have to attend at work each year :) Ugh. But it is important as a group to know all of this information. It is important to be a member of this site, know this information, have it posted around here somewhere, and then pass the word. It should come up more often. Too many new members, too many new puppies being bred, too many sick, too many sick puppies, too many looking for the $600 not the $2600 dog, too many sick puppies around here. We are seeing it everyday here. It is time to review.
The Amish make great barns, furniture, and quilts. Not puppies.
Folks, I do not want to know where your puppy is from. I had an Amish Puppy Myself. I just want to remind others to spread the word and educate new members.
The following is really benign. If you want to research more yourself, have at it. There is plenty on the internet.
UPDATE: I DELETED THE LONG DISCUSSION. WHO NEEDS MY EMOTION. I THOUGHT FACTS WOULD BE BEST.
HERE IS A SEGMENT BY NIGHTLINE. SOMEONE MORE REPUTABLE. AN EASY WATCH AND INFORMATIVE.
IT IS HARD ENOUGH AROUND HERE, WITHOUT ADDING RELIGION AND CULTURES.
SO LETS GO EASY ON EACH OTHER.
FEEL FREE TO DELETE YOUR COMMENTS... OR WHATEVER. REMEMBER THIS IS TO GET THE WORD OUT THERE.

NIGHTLINE

Thanks for re-opening Joanne. I was one of the people that asked. My one important message is for people to not support any pet stores that sell puppies. That means not buying food, toys, grooming products EVEN if they are the only store around that carries the item you want. I went to the nice little shop 25 minutes from out cottage that carries the good food because I was running low and low and behold they were selling puppies. I had to tell them I could no longer shop there. The result was Gavin getting (much to his delight) a mix of lean ground beef and rice mixed with his kibble to stretch it out a week until our next visitors could bring up a bag. Yesterday I went 45 minutes further a field because I needed some canned food. I went to the store I hear advertised on the radio all the time and they had a sign posting a puppy for sale in the window. Ugh! Luckily I found another store that was absolutely beautiful and sold all of the fine foods. I poked my head in and said "do you sell puppies." The response: "not on your life." Hallelujah!
Another good reminder, BG! I just found an on-line site that is quick and easy and carries the good stuff. I am not sure if that is feasible where you live or not.
Good for you!
Joanne, Thanks for posting!
I really, really appreciate you posting this. Those videos are horrifying and heartbreaking. Its really important for people to see and learn about this though.
Joanne- you're awesome. Good idea to have an annual mandatory meeting! But I learned the hard way...it's not just the Amish. I had on those same rose colored glasses. I drove about an hour to visit a "recommended breeder" from a credible website. She said she had the perfect golden doodle pup for me. Her site was wonderful. Puppies raised in the home, 2 year health guarantee, good references. The puppy was beautiful (what doodle isn't??) Ok, I was a little uncomfortable that the place was farther away than I thought and we were in Amish country! She was not Amish but folks, if somebody won't show you where their dogs are kept WALK AWAY! I told her I'd be back to pick up the little one on the weekend but her unwillingness to take me to see where "mom" was kept was bothering me. I learned that PA has a database where you can look up any breeder. Maybe other states do too. It tells you how many dogs are sold annually and lists all inspections, citations, and warnings. What I learned about the conditions of the kennels (I use that term loosely) and the conditions of some of the "breeding" dogs over the next few days broke my heart. I sure spent some sleepless nights before I decided I couldn't go back. I felt really sad and dumb. I wasn't rescuing the pup, I knew that she would find a good home. It felt like I was tilting at windmills - the problem is so big --but I couldn't support that misery. Hoping that sharing this helps other prospective doodle owners avoid this heartbreak.
Thank you for this post, Cheryl, and for not supporting that misery. It's so important that people understand that what is on the website is not always the truth, and that when you put money in the hands of people like that, you are not rescuing a dog, you are ensuring that the misery will continue.
Cheryl, I found this link. I believe this is what you are referring to. It would be great to have had this information as a new member...

Carla, thanks for the link. This can be very useful for checking on boarding and day care facilities too. However, when I try to pull up an inspection report it tells me that I am not authorized to view the report. Does anyone else have this problem?
I was able to pull up Lucky Paws, and my breeder's with no trouble... Can you view that one?
I did notice for some odd reason, that I have to click and close the report twice. The first time it always opens the PREVIOUSLY clicked report, when I click the new report the second time, it will open the correct report...
No, it
I had that problem 2 years ago, although not today when I tried. I remember having to call the Inspections Department back then and they gave me a special link or a password to get into the database. They were really helpful and supportive.
