Eli is a therapy dog!

Eli, the weimardoodle, and I received notification today that we have been accepted as a Therapy Dogs Incorporated Team.  We had to go through the Alternate Membership Committe because we have no evaluators in Arkansas.  I can't wait to begin our official visits in area skilled nursing facilities here in Arkansas.  This sweet, goofy boy just makes people smile.        Watch out world, Eli's coming better hide your heart!

congratulations!!  Have you been on visits yet?  How is it going?

Kirby loves to go visiting.   Lately we have been doing a lot of hospice visits.

We volunteer with one of the local hospice organizations, Arkansas Hospice, for mostly nursing home visits right now.  The residents and staff love him!

I think the staff gets as much out of Therapy Dog visits as the patients!  They really need a break and something to brighten THEIR day too.

This is so strange.  I had not heard of Therapy Dog Inc. until this morning and now I'm seeing it again today.  At first I was confused with the Therapy Dogs International (TDI) group.  What did you have to do for the Alternate Membership that you refer to?  Just Curious.  And congrats as well.  I hope that you enjoy visiting.

Yes, it is confusing.  Therapy Dogs Incorporated is out of Wyoming with teams throughout the USA.   The alternate membership route is available if there are no evaluators in your area.  Requirements include references from three 3 different people who have knowledge of your handling/team skills, CGC evaluation, veterinarian evaluation of health, extensive written questionaire/test of handling knowledge and actual evaluation of you and your dog in various types of situations (ie,crowd, other dogs,petting) much like other actual evaluations. We had a CGC evaluator complete the team skill test for us, but on the website there are other acceptable options.  It was alot of paper to compile, but worth it!  Check out the website. www.therapydogs.com

Congratulations........I know it takes a lot of training to get to where you and Eli are. He is going to make a lot of people happy and uplift the spirits of a lot of sad souls. Love what you are doing!
