Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi All,
We have a one year old Doodle who's never had an issue with eating (food goes down in morning and night and it's gone within 2 min). Lately, when we feed her she smells the bowl and walks away. She's not lethargic at all and is acting as she always does. When I take the food out of the bowl, she'll at least eat some of it. I've tried changing bowls and that doesn't work.
Is it possible she no longer likes the food? Any suggestions or help would be muchly appreciated.
Thanks,
SGF

Charlie is 1.6 and he does the same thing. Maybe they just get a little bored with the same thing - i don't know! I have two kibbles that Charlie likes and just change them up. I sometimes mix about 1/2 tsp of wild salmon oil in his food and he loves that! Good luck - I hope you find something that works for you guys.
Thank you for posting this question, SGF. I think we could use a little more information. How long has this been going on? What are you feeding her? Has she had additional treats due to training or something that might be filling her up? Is she eating less or not at all? You could post this on the front page for more answers also. At one year old this behavior isn't so much of a puppy concern.
Thanks - I was told to post her for any dogs under 2. She's been doing this for about a week and no additional treats due to training. She's eating less but nibbling here and there. We've served her the same food from the time we picked her up from the breeder (Life's Abundance - organic). Thanks!
If she is eating, but less... it could be that she has finished a growth spurt and not as interested in food.
The posting thing is up to your own discretion. If the topic is specific to puppy behavior, you will often get the most answers in the Puppy Madness group. This question isn't "puppy specific" so I thought you might get more input from the general DK population.
You could try a search for "eating less" in the discussions both general and The Food Group. Sometimes you can find old discussions that pertain to your concern. Here is one:

I find, living in Florida, that if my dogs are particularly warm they drink more but eat less. As they don't run around as much in the summertime due to heat, they need less calories and therefore eat less. However, make sure the water intake is plentiful. I also don't let my dogs get used to "grazing", this leads to them eating too much as the weather cools down and COULD cause obesity. Good luck, I hope it's as simple as this.
