No need to apologize, Gail. All of this just makes me sad, the comment wasn't directed at you.
I had hoped that with all the media exposure, more people would be aware, but I do know that's just not the case.
You are correct Gail, there are way too many folks who don't know. The great news is that you are one more person who now does know and you can help educate and spread the word :)
Consider it done!!!!!
Gail - my Samantha came from a pet store here in NJ before I was educated. We all have to share what we learn. I also stop people in the store if they are buying garbage kibble and attempt to educate them. That is how I pay if forward in Samantha's Mommas name.
Here's a DK discussion about them from back in 2010:

And one from last December after the news story was aired on the Today show:

How does the private online sales work? When someone buys online, does the puppy just get shipped to them or are there satellite families who have the puppies in their homes and people come to see the puppies?
For example, a person goes to the Jones home to see puppies advertised in a newspaper or Craigslist. The puppies are there but no parents.
I don't understand how the private side ( versus the commercial pet store sales) of internet sales works
The puppies are shipped directly to the buyer.
One reason why people who are not experienced enough to know exactly who and what they are dealing with when buying a puppy should never ever buy one on-line without visiting the breeder.
Wow. I buy a lot online but never in my wildest dreams would even consider going to some website and clicking away a new puppy.
Obviously, I am in the minority because this seems to be big business.
You would think airports would be packed with puppies though. Maybe I am just not in airports enough any longer.
I recently found out that there is a pet store in my area selling puppies....seriously I did not know there were any of these in my area. They are very proud of their "breeder" and have a page on their website about this "breeder" and said "breeder" breeds every combination of dog you can imagine. Clearly to someone like me they are buying from a puppymill but there must be many, many people who don't understand because they are still in business and still advertising where their puppies come from. Makes me want to puke.
If a dog is being sold at a pet store it comes from a puppy mill!!!
My son's friend bought a teacup poodle online on one of those puppy marts before I could STOP her, and a couple brought the puppy to her home.
There's a dog farm, not too far from here (which I thought was closed down years ago). He brings in full litters, great website, says he has a network of small quality breeders around the state. What a crock! He buys wholesale! But you wouldn't believe how many well meaning people fall for this. Those of us who know do what we can to spread the word but it should just be flat out illegal!
Hopefully, Los Angeles is going to put an end to allowing these poor puppies to be sold within city limits.
