Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hey yall! I currently have a 2 year old Medium (40lb) Goldendoodle and am interested in getting a second one because there really is no other breed I would consider. Maui is a male, so I was planning on getting a female. He gets along with other dogs and is well trained. The main reason that I wanted to get a second Goldendoodle is because I will be starting a new job within the next year that will require more of my time. Maui is used to spending so much time with me that I don't want him to get too lonely. I figured now would be the perfect time, so I could train the new puppy and make her feel at home in time for me to have to start my new job. Any suggestions or recommendations of what I should do would be really helpful!
Thanks!

I say go for it and don't arbitrarily choose a girl if a male pup is a better fit. I ended up with all males and have no problems. Something I would begin if I were you is leaving Maui alone more often now so that he gets used to it gradually rather than when it actually happens.
We couldn't be happier with our second doodle. Completely different in her own way. We got 2 Females, and although they wrestle all the time they are never overly aggressive. Our 2nd was much easier to train then the first. You 2 year old will help with some of the training.
The only negative I can think of is that when my 2 go to the dog park, all they want to do is play with each other.
One question I would ask is if when you say that your current doodle is good with other dogs, is he good with them in his home environment. I think that some dogs that enjoy doggie day care or the dog park or other peoples dogs at their homes, might not particularly want to share their home and Momma with another dog. Just something to think about.
I can attest to that. We just got our second puppy and he is NOTHING like Monty was as a pup. Raising a new puppy along a 2 year old dog is a challenge. Sometimes the older dog helps, sometimes he does not. It is still a lot of work. I love puppies, but fast-forwarding to when little Auggie is about a year old would be just perfect! :-) I never had two dogs before so this is all new to me as well.
