my 2 1/2 year old Bodhi, has started growling at me while I try to pick out foxtails or weeds from his shaggy coat. I am not sure if he might just try to bite me and I'm not sure how to handle this. Otherwise, he is very friendly and affectionate. Any advice?

I have had some of my dogs get more feisty after two years of age as well and it may not stop with the grooming. I would get to a trainer and work to re-establish yourself as the top dog. Dogs'personalities can change a bit as they leave puppy-hood and not always for the better. There are lots of things you can do to maintain your position. For example, remove a bone he is chewing on and give it back with a treat. You can give him treats while grooming a tiny bit and praise him when he is behaving for the grooming, then gradually increase it--In my opinion, I think this is a sign of him trying to dominate you and you need to get on it right away.
thanks, great advice as I do allow Bodhi to rule the roost around here...have to let him know that I am the queen bee...
I agree with Ginny that there could be some dominance issues involved and the suggestion to reassert yourself as leader.
But aside from that maybe he is just trying to tell you that what you are doing is hurting. :)
thanks very much...will work on the "who is in charge" issue...
One of my Shih-Tzu would growl at me when I would brush her if I came acorss a matt and tugged a bit too hard. She was just saying "ouch" and take it easy Mom- She never ever bit me, I think it was just a warning that she did not like it. She did this all of her life (15 yrs) and never once bit. But that was my dog... your dog could be different. Maybe keep her occupied when grooming with a high value toy or treats.
Bodhi is at the groomer's right now and I will be more careful in keeping him away from foxtail areas...and I will definitely be more gentle...thanks very much...
