I know I have mentioned (probably too many times) that my daughter is a vet--she is a dairy vet but also treats other farm animals and horses. There is a Youtube series called "Veterinarians on Call" produced by the Pfizer company and they just released a video of my daughter and her boss and mentor, Dr Pete Ostrum, at work.
If Pete looks a little familiar to some of you, he played Charlie is the old Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie--or maybe it was called Willie Wonka (the one with Gene Wilder) Anyway, that was his only acting job and he dedicated himself to becoming a vet after that.
I just thought some of you might be interested...but truthfully, I am a proud MOM!!!

I was a Biology teacher but thought about being a doctor--I didn't have the nerve or the financial support from family back in the 70's--my dad thought it was a waste of $$ to send a girl to college--those were the days!! Thankfully, my mom helped me get loans and I got to go to Wellesley College (Hillary Rodham Clinton went there but graduated a few years before me)--and I loved teaching Bio and had 34 great years, so it all worked out.
I know what you mean but I did it even earlier. Luckily the city and state of NY helped a lot for 20 years of school.
Ha! My son lives in Dover, MA and his office is in Wellesley. Also my 4 yr. old grandson goes to the Montessori school in Wellesley...I know it well!
Awesome video! How wonderful that your daughter is so happy with her career. It's obvious she loves what she is doing and is a great vet!
I really enjoyed watching the video! Congrats on raising such a smart talented daughter who followed her heart!
That's great! Thanks for sharing. What an awesome daughter. That is a hard work she has, though. Glad she is loving it!
YAAAAAY!!! I clapped my hands when the video was finished. And yes, I truly am that dorky.
Me too! the whole family just rolls their eyes--but I can't help it!
How wonderful that your daughter is following her hearts desire when it comes to her career choice. It is a rare thing nowadays and of course you are extremely proud. The video is really good and it must be great to be able to see your daughter at work. Many congratulations on this wonderful achievement.
Thanks! When she first finished college and started out as an architect, she came home one day and said"I had an epiphany today--I should be a vet like I always wanted to be"--well, we were pretty shocked at that, and of course, unable to pay for it since she went to a very expensive school for a BA and we still had two kids to educate! But she borrowed it all and took the courses she needed, ran a sheep farm for two years while she got that coursework done and then shocked us even more by getting into Cornell. It is hard work, but Jen has always been a workaholic--even the games she played as a kid involved working to some extent--now it is paying off.
She also was granted a Federal Loan repayment award--she is working in an area that needs large animal vets, so each quarter, if she serves that area, the Federal govt pays part of her loans off--yippee!!
Ginny, You should be proud.
Very very nice, you have every right to be proud !
