Had to put our beloved Rustie down today! She couldn't walk & was falling. Couldn't have her suffer any more. We're all hurting really bad. Ruby misses her something awful. I held her when he gave her the injection. The vein kept collapsing & she was groaning. I kept telling her "Mommie's here & you're a good girl" That's all I could do for her. Thanks thru tears!! Susan, I am so sorry to hear the news about Rustie. I know how hard it was for you. It's sad that they have to go too soon. Sending DoodleHugs and DoodleKisses your way.
Oh, I"m so sorry...I soooo know how you feel. I hope you can manage to get through these tough times!! Rustie feels much better now. Take care.
Susan, I am so sorry to hear about Rustie. I just had to do that June 28 with our 11 year old yellow lab Bear. It was awful the poor guy's legs and back just gave out on him. He had been in pain for quite some time apparently but we didn't realize. I also took him and held them when he got the shot. The men in my family couldn't participate, it was just too sad for them!
So sorry for your loss.
My heart breaks for you. It is such a difficult decision to make, and saying "Goodbye" feels like someone has planted a boulder in your stomach and and knife in your heart!

Rustie will always be watching over you and remember,s he knows how much she IS loved.

hugs and Doodle Kisses,
Gail
Susan, I am so sorry for your loss of your beloved Rustie. While there is nothing anyone can say will take away the pain you are feeling, please know that our thoughts are with you. Here are a few words that have comforted me when I have experienced this grief in the past. (It is from 'Last Will & Testament of an Extremely Distinguished Dog' by Eugene O'Neill.)

"...One last word of farewell, Dear Master and Mistress... say to yourselves with regret but also with happiness in your hearts at the remembrance of my long happy life with you: "Here lies one who loved us and whom we loved". No matter how deep my sleep I shall hear you, and not all the power of death can keep my spirit from wagging a grateful tail."

Hugs to you & your family from Jackdoodle & me.
I just knew that I should not be reading postings in this discussion at work. The replys are so thoughtful and heartfelt that the tears will not streaming down my cheeks - for Rustie, Susan, her family.
I'm sorry for your loss. Even when we know it is the best thing to do it still is very hard. We'll be thinking about you.
Oh, Susan.....I'm so sorry.
I am so, so sorry for your loss.
I am so sad for you. You know it's part of life but it still hurts. Even when you know that someone's health is declining, when the time comes you're never really as ready as you hope you will be. Rustie's not feeling any pain & like all dogs knows just how much you love them & that we do the best we can for them & they know that. Death is hardest on those who are left behind but Rustie will always be there, smiling with you in you heart.

I never thought such a happy website with make me so teary. Thank you for sharing & you've got lots of support here, as silent & vocal as you want.
I have always felt that it was my duty, to honor the dog that I loved so much, to continue that love for another dog that would not have had the opportunity to have the loving home, if my much-loved pet had not passed over the Rainbow Bridge.

In a nutshell, I have always made sure that I adopted a dog as a living memorial to the dog that just passed. We have done this for as long as I can remember. It makes you feel good to look at the new family member and think of your old friend smiling down on you because you have offered the same love to one that would not have had the opportunity if your friend had not passed.

I am weeping, so I am rambling a little. Yes, I too am overly emotional!

Hugs, Susan. We all love you and are hurting right along with you.
