Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hey everyone! i have a goldendoodle puppy who is 19 weeks old..we got him from a breeder at 7 weeks...he is an AMAZING puppy..extremely smart.. he learned sit down and paw at 7 weeks old!!.. he has NEVER pooped in my house...he does amazing in his crate..BUT he play bites A LOT and seems to get the "puppy crazies" right before bed at night.. he is VERY strong and the biting hurts.. he has gotten a lot better in the last 3 weeks but sometimes he still goes into crazy mode.. which is fine..but the biting has to stop! of course we tried the "oww" method..the bitter apple spray..replacing my hand with a toy.. but sometimes when he is in his mood there is no stopping him! he even raises his lip when he bites! i know he is playing..but is there a light at the end of this tunnel?? did anyone else experiance this???? any kind of advice would help! xoxo

I'd get him into puppy classes ASAP. Puppies learn bite inhibition from their littermates and mother between 6-8 weeks, and 7 weeks is a little bit young for some dogs to be separated from the litter. All puppies nip and play bite, but if in this case, it sounds like he is a little bit more serious about it and may not have learned what is appropriate when it comes to using his mouth on someone else. A good trainer or class can help with this.

thank you! we are starting puppy classes sept 9th..i had a trainer come to the house and he said it is nto aggression..he is just "flexing his mucles" at us to see what he can get away with..idk lol

Chelsea, Join the Puppy Madness group. They are tons of discussions about this in that forum.  I think we all experienced this stage. My feeling is this is a stage...they all go through it, in my opinion.  I thought Fudge was a shark. Many times when they are acting terrible...they are tired and need to be given a time out in their crate for both of you to re-group.  I used Bully Sticks at this age and it seemed to help. I would distract with a bully stick or a toy and try to stay calm. They feed off of your energy.  As with any chew toy, always supervise them.  Karen is right about the Puppy class. It will help. This too shall pass :) Good luck!!

thanks that was a big help and relief that im not alone! lol we always try and do puppy play dates with my moms 3 dogs to let him burn off some energy..we take him on at least 2 walks a day..and i bring him to dog runs! lol..he is just a ball of energy..and ur soo right..the trainer said no matter if ur yelling at him or playing with him..he wants attention and he will take ANY kind lol.. i ordered bullsticks online because they are sooo expensive in the store..and he eats them in 30 minutes!!!! the website said it can lastg a dog 2 days!! 2 days HA!! lol.. but i love them for him.. i got them from bestbullysticks.com i ordered them in bulk i got the odorless ones.. he is SOOO a little shark..we call him that! take a look at my pics of his teeth! lol.. hes like a snapping alligator..lol how old is ur doodle? mine is 19 weeks and he is 40 lbs!!! im scared i bought a polar bear!!!! lol :)

Hi! Just curious if you remember any tricks that helped stopped this or when he stopped on his own? Bob is in the middle of this phase right now.
