Sometimes I compare my life to a flower. And in that analogy I'm at the almost ready to drop my petals stage and the late summer garden is not far behind. Lots of things have bloomed and are done. This hydrangea is done but some other types are going strong:
Some are reblooming like this Abelia and Spirea.
Others are still blooming like this Vitex Agnus Castus:
And the Goldenrod, look at all the insects, and Anemones are starting:

I was giving up hope as it is so late in the season but when I looked a few days ago there are probably a dozen or more flowers buds. The first one bloomed and died and I didn't catch it. The plant had gone yellow from over watering while we were on vacation and it was all limp and sad but mother nature prevailed. Thanks F for the lovely keychain. :>)
: ) The buds as you know get to be that spectacular pistachio colored swirl, as good as the flowers.
CONGRATULATIONS! I only had two seeds and was not lucky with Fs original but was very successful with the packet she sent.
We were wondering if anyone else had luck! I am so proud of YOU!@ Yeah
Very pretty! Do they bloom at night? (Curious about the name.)
They do open late in the day.
Linda, I have the other " Moon Flower"
Here is my first bloom from late last week. They really don't start blooming until August. The flower only blooms ONCE then goes to seed. Mine come out about 8 pm and they last all night. Yes. I am able to enjoy the flower until about 10am. Then it is gone forever. Huge, Sweet, Spectacular.
Notice there is a difference in the flowers. Donna's is on a vine. Mine is almost bush-like. But these also have a spectacular pistachio swirl like F mentions.
I like to plant them around the patio for late nights outside.
Beautiful.
They're exquisite! It's sad and interesting that they only bloom for one day (night).
Some flowers do that, though, and you get used to it. The flowers though are always at their peak for their brief moment in time. Among my favorite flowers are daylilies and the name says it all. In a way I find the fading of flowers, rosebud to fullblown rose to overblown rose, sad. All morning glories are gone the same day : (
A poignant reminder that life is short for all of us; each and every day is a a gift to be treasured.
Indeed. In my mind's eye I am the rose about to drop it's petals : )
How nice! I tried them one year and didn't have much luck. Glad you are enjoying them!
