Swayze's New Toys

We have had Swayze only since Friday and he only came with an antler to chew on and a rubber-like cheese wedge that squeaks.

We have tried to play with him with these, play fetch, hide the toy etc. But just dosnt work. To expend his energy we were going out side and just playing a weird game of "Bull and Matador".

So today we got up and went to Petsmart to find a toy that will keep him happy and entertained. Well, while there he was far too distracted with all the other dogs to show too much interest in the toys. But, when I squeaked some of them he perked up. I ended up getting a stuff-less dragon with 3 squeakers in it and a treat ball that dispenses kibble or treats as he plays.

Once we got home, OH MY GOSH! I got the stuff-less toy out, removed packaging and squeezed it and all he could do was BEG! He chewed and squeaked and licked and threw that toy like crazy! He loves it! Wants to play fetch with it and snuggle it! But the problem is, he is already chewing off one of the legs. It looks like I do need the durable ones or toys without "limbs"? I took it away and decided he can play with it once in a while but not just let him naw on it. Once I pulled that away he was very intrigued by the treat ball and figure it out pretty quick.

I'm just wondering if you guys have any other toys you've tried and like. Or regret giving them that $15 stuffed animal that was destroyed 10 minutes later?

I've heard of the water bottle in the sock, anyone try it?

Swayze is such a doll... and he sure does look like he loves his toy!   The water bottle is a GREAT toy... and the "krinklier" the toy, the more they seem to like them.

One of my favorites - that is really durable - is the series of "Hide-A-Squirrel" toys made by Kyjen.  I've found them to be very durable with even rough dogs, and you can even buy more squirrels as replacements without having to buy the whole toy all over again.  All of Kyjen's products are excellent.  Here's a link: http://amzn.to/TYJZas

Kari ~ Charlie just prefers squeaky balls, or any ball for that matter!  I just wanted to tell you Swayze is so very cute!

I've got a whole bunch of rubbery toys for Monty. He too chews off limbs of any plush toys, so the first thing I do when I come home with a toy that has limbs, I cut them off. :-)  He likes his Kong rubber balls. I've tried the bottle in the sock (well, it was not a sock, it was some kind of an animal with a velcro at the bottom, and he figured out how to get the bottle out of there pretty quickly. Got him the Hide-a-squirrel last Christmas only to see it ripped apart in a few minutes. We still have a couple of the squirrels, though their tails are pretty hairless.

My two distroy most soft toys or rip the stuffing out of them.  Ollie is a agressive chewer so he gets the antlers and nylabones.  I give both doodles bully sticks that last about 20 minutes and the hooves last a good long time.

Peri can't have any toys anymore - waste of money. She has always de-stuffed and shredded anything we give her :)  Silly doods!

Nothing here that teeth can penetrate, tear, shred, dismantle, break small pieces off or otherwise destroy in less than a week. I feel I can at least get my money worth if it lasts a week. Those toys are usually soft plastic balls that other visiting dogs, (or Bella) just have to chew like sugarless gum. Murphy plays catch with me throwing these soft balls right into his mouth every night, so we can't use anything harder or it would hurt his mouth I'm afraid.
So, save your money, invest in antlers, and some nylabones and join the toy group. Good luck.
