Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I've noticed from just conversing with my friends/family/co-workers/etc. that people have a wide variety of sleeping arrangements for their pooches. So this post isn't for advice, but is more of a fun "poll" to find out where your doodle sleeps. You'll get no judgement on your particular arrangement. I think that in the end a family should go with what works best for them and their dog :).

For instance, when we first got Duncan, we agreed to follow the "rules" and crate him at night from the very beginning. At almost 8 months old, he is sleeping in our bed every night. In fact, he is wedged between DH and I as I type this (and I should mention that it was DH - the man who SWORE a dog would never sleep in our bed - who started this arrangement :). Duncan has always loathed his crate no matter what we did to make it a positive thing for him, and to be honest we all get more sleep now!

So where does your Doode sleep?

Ha! I bet Boca is happy to be back :). Duncan started out at the food of the bed when he first got the green light to come up, but over the last few nights I have woken up to a cold nose on my neck as he has been snuggling up between me and the hubby. Does Boca have a "spot" on the bed?

From this morning:

Sedona is 3 years old and still sleeps in a crate.  It's her "beddie" and she likes it.  In fact, there are nights when she's ready for sleep before we are and she'll go stare at her crate until we open the door for her.  (When she was a baby, we kept the door closed during the day so that she'd stop pulling her mattress out of the crate to chew on it.  Now it's closed mostly due to habit.)

Milo is 20 weeks old now and housebroken, has been from almost the start.  We started off creating him for the first 3 weeks.  He now starts his night off in my 6 year old sons bed to read a book and usually hangs out till his is asleep.  He heads to our room and its between our bed, the bedroom floor or hardwood floor in the hallway - we let him decide.  He will sometimes go downstairs for a drink, but always comes back up to be with us.  The only stipulation is we have to close our closet door - he loves socks and underwear.

Bindi sleeps different places. She sleeps a majority of the time in our bed. My DH works nights so she has been company for me. On weekends when he is home it depends on Bindi's mood & the temperature. Bindi does not like to be hot, so if it is too hot she won't sleep in bed when we are both there. Lately when my DH comes home around 3:30 am, Bindi has been waking me up to let me know she is leaving the bed to go in the living room with him. As if to say "mama daddy's home I'm going in there now, ok!"  She also sleeps in the on the windowsill or on her chair in the living room when the temperture is warmer. Bindi also sleeps in her crate. I guess she picks her spot whatever mood she is in.

P.S. We are looking to get a king size bed so there is more room.

Stanlee is six months old and still sleeps in his crate.  We don't permit the dogs in the bed 1) because we only have a queen-sized bed and my DH is a VERY large man 2) if we let one dog in the bed we have to let all dogs in the bed and 3) there isn't enough room left for 155lbs of dog.

Since Stan only sleeps in his crate at night, during the day and in the evening he sleeps in whatever room I happen to be in so when in the kitchen he sleeps on the half rug, when in the living room he throws himself down on the wood floor behind one of the couches and when in the bedroom, he is half on the tile in the bathroom and half on the wood floor in the "prep area".   I'm hoping i can trust him with free reign of the house soon, but I have caught him a couple of times snorkin' the garbage or UP ON THE BED when no one is looking.  And with the holidays coming up, I have a feeling decorations will be too tempting for him to resist.

For the first week of having Raley as a pup we kept her crate in the living room - after trying to sleep through her crying for a few nights we moved her crate into our bedroom and she slept happily in there until about 6 months old - when we got rid of the crate all together (she roams the house now at 9 months old) and gave her a bed on the floor of our bedroom. We waited to get rid of the crate until she was potty trained. Lately she has gotten a fascination with the bed (she never seemed to like it before) and throughout the night she attempts to jump up and cuddle. 2 people + 57 lb doodle in a Queen sized bed=does not work!! So she gets kicked out several times a night...

Good question and I love how many let their doodle sleep in bed with them.  My little Zoey always sleeps in my bed and will even go upstairs to take a nap.  Ozzy sleeps where ever he wants.  Lets just say when he gets into bed we don't have enough room for him but, of course we take the edge of the bed so he can get comfortable.  LOL maybe not the best thing to do but it is ok with us.  Just saying

Lol - I love it! I honestly like having Duncan on the bed and snuggling, but like you we are having a hard time with the logistics of having a 60 lb pup (and growing) in our queen sized bed!

Yoda jumps into bed with us every night.  He lays right in the middle of us and gets lovin until he decides to get down and sleep.  Usually as soon as the lights go out, he gets down.  He either sleeps on his bed on DH's side, or on the hardwood floor in front of the door on my side.  The only time he tries to sleep in our bed is if he exercised all day and is totally tired.  He will just conk out in the bed and I have to convince him to get down.  DH loves to sleep with Yoda draped over him, but I can't stand being hot and oh lord his panting shakes the whole bed!!!

I love his name! Yeah the movement can really keep you up. I woke up to Duncan "dreaming" this morning lol.

Macie likes to sleep in our shower.  Silly girl!

We let our little dog Gracie join us in bed, but Noe sleeps in her crate in the living room. She really took to it pretty well from the start. Although during the day she likes to try to squeeze herself into Gracie's bed, I wonder if she will ever figure out that it's not her size!
