Over anxious doodle mom LOLing

This morning, after I take Hurley out for his potty time, instead of going for his food bowl he curls up on his doggie bed, which was surprising, but I had to get go pick up the grandkids, get them to school and then to the gym to teach my Healthy Back class.  So I didn't think to much more about it.

When I got home Hurley was lying in his kennel, which is odd because he always comes to the door to greet whomever is coming home.  I find out he has not eaten and appears not to have been drinking.  To coax him out of the kennel I try all his favorite toys to see if he wanted to play but he finally moves from the kennel back to his doggie bed.  He always follows me from room to room but not this time.  I cut pieces of apple for him (he loves apples) but he barely opens his eyes or stirs or lifts his head. 

I panic, call the Vet and take him right in.  Never mind that we have been going non-stop for over a week and he has been either playing with other dogs, training with his trainer, traveling to Ca and back, over at the grandkid's house swimming and swimming and swimming and playing with their dogs, or he is out for walks.  

Of course, he snuck into the kitchen at my mom's house in Ca and ate the cat's food a couple of times.   I tell the vet he is acting lethargic, not eating, etc.  She does all the things Vets do before possibly taking next steps.  Then she offers him some moist dog food and he gobbles it up.  

Diagnosis - Just a very tired puppy and an over anxious dooddlemom.  But I am to bring him back in the morning if he doesn't eat, show any interest in playing, etc.  

Of course, he wants to play as soon as we got home, he drinks, he eats pieces of apple and follows me from room to room.  Then he crashes on the floor and sleeps like I wish I could sleep at night.

So I think I have learned to not be so over anxious and to realize that even a very active puppy gets really tired.  Duh!!!  I don't think I got that over anxious when my son was that age (10 human months).

BTW - Hurley weighted in at 48 lbs.  He turns ll months the end of Oct.  

Has anyone else jumped the panic button or am I the only over baring doodle mom?

I have done the very same thing and very over anxious at times.  I too don't think I got this nervous or upset with our five children!  One time we rushed Libby to Pet ER and was just sure this was "it" for her.  Well $459.00 and four hours later she was diagnosed with an upset tummy from something she ate outside.  She was five months old and we were very "new" doodle parents!  I have relaxed a little more now and she is eighteen months old and just a joy to have in our family.  Our five grown kids all want her for their own!  The six granddaugters adore her and she waits by the door for their visits. Doodle hood is fantastic!

Good to hear I am not the only one to be a bit over anxious.   And, yes, Hurley is back to his normal playful self.  Yea!!!

How odd, Stella acted exactly the same way today! Refused to eat, drank a little water, but mostly slept, which is not her normal behavior... Maybe it's the full moon, or perhaps the heat? I don't know, but I hope she'll fell better tomorrow. Glad Hurley is back to normal!

So, ummmm, I'm the one who rushed 9 week old Lachlan to the emergency vet at 5am on a Sunday morning because he stopped eating. Blood-work, x-rays, the whole bit. Turns out he just wasn't particularly hungry. They were kind enough not to laugh too loudly (where I could hear them). Glad Hurley's fine, and nope ... you're not alone!

I'm the poster Mom for over anxious. I took my doodle home from the breeder and the next day to the vet, he gave him a clean bill of health. 2 days later I brought him back thinking he had a bladder infection because he was peeing in several spots on my lawn for 15 minutes straight.  3 days after that I had him back because I thought his penis was swollen, I never had a boy dog and that red thing spooked me. The vet said if I keep it up I will alone will put his kids through college. Many times in his first 2 weeks home I came close to placing a mirror to his face because he sleeps so still and soundly I even woke him up to check. If he doesn't drink enough I cook chicken to make broth for him to drink he loves it. I do hover over him very much like I did with my children. I still rather be safe than sorry even if it seems crazy as my friends say it is.

Vivian, so glad to hear I'm not the only one who worried because the pup slept so soundly. That first couple of weeks I actually snapped awake convinced that Lach had died during the night because he was too quiet!

Jen I though Mojo died also, night # 2 he slept through the night from 11 pm till 8 am, he was in the create next to my bed and when I saw the time and him so still I screamed and tore the create door open hurting my hand, he woke and was frightened and backed away from me.

Vivian, I'm laughing out loud here but it's with sympathy. It was probably the third or fourth night before poor Lachlan got what he considers a good nights' sleep because I kept waking him up to make sure he was breathing. He still likes a solid 9+ hours every night and gives me dirty looks in the morning while he staggers around yawning if I get him up before he's ready. If he were human he'd be muttering something like "shaddup woman, where's my coffee" every morning.

On the bright side, Declan's a complete contrast (and I think I prefer Lachlan's approach). Not sure Dec even sleeps. Every time I wake up and look down he's staring at me, all bright eyed and ready to roll. Disgusting!

Jen I'm laughing with you and your cracking me up lol Lachlan's approach is very much like Mojo's...I woke at 6 am on the morning of his neutering and he refused to budge...rolled over in his create and went back to sleep, I have to carry him to the car at 7am. He must think I'm wacky like my daughter did...we lived in NYC and when she wanted to take the subway alone at 12 I said no, all her friends did so I relented but disguised myself and followed her. I hope I can calm down and let Mojpo play off leash when hes older, he is really great with recall but I can't let go of the leash.

OMD you are the poster Mom for over anxious!   I love it and now I don't feel so bad.  Like you, rather safe then sorry:)

And Lonnie I'm retired so Mojo has me doting on him all day long and I take him almost everywhere. I even bought a pet stroller so I can bring him into stores. He hides sometime to have a break from my watching eyes lol and than I really freak out looking for & calling him and ready to phone the police thinking someone stole him. But all and all he is a happy little guy.
