Reading about it is one thing but going through it is another...Baxter was neutered yesterday

Even though I have owned dogs in the past all of them were neutered before I adopted them including Jake so Baxter is my first.  Let's just say I am still in my pajamas and it's after 2 pm...lol.  Even though we are in the same room and I've been watching him like a hawk he must have gotten to the surgery site because it started bleeding.  The blow-up collar is not working as well as I had hoped so I've added another neck pillow until I get to the store.  The boys underwear I bought is too small so I've jury rigged an old t-shirt of DH's.

He may look happy but trust me he is not a happy camper:^(

awww that first picture of him looks so sad!  he's so cute!  I hope you get through this smoothly.

Bender didn't bother his sutures so we didn't use the cone on him but I'd imagine that it would bother them =(

this is going to be a memory before you know it. THey heal so fast...... I didn't use a collar for Jack... I just kept him by me and if he went to touch his site I corrected him.. Really he was only down a few hours post surgery and by the next day he was impossible to hold down.

Maybe if you are in the same room, let him out of the crate and lay with you.... He probably just doesn't like the collar on him.....Trust me, without any complications, they are bouncing off the walls before you know it.

Poor baby. But they do heal fast. Keep him occupied somehow. Auggie came already fixed, which was a good thing since we had to go through this with Monty. We did not use the cone on him either, but the sutures did not dissolve as they were supposed to so we still had to go back to the vet and have them pulled out since the area was oozing. Give it a couple of days and he won't even know anything happened down there.

Poor guy, hope it goes by quickly!

Hoping he heals quickly and you both get some rest!

I can only reiterate what the others have said. The boys heal really fast. (Girls, not so much). JD was neutered on a Friday, I adopted him the following Tuesday night, and he never needed the collar.

I think the one Baxter has might be too small around if he can still get to the sutures. He is so cute, he looks kind of like a ring toss with both of them on, lol!

Hope he feels better soon.  We used the boys underwear on both Tank and Sully and they left the stitches alone completely. Wearing the underwear seemed to bother Sully more than the stitches. If it was off for potty time, we used a Kong collar and kept them on leash.  Sully's stitches did spot for a few days and I had him checked just to be sure nothing was going on.  Nothing was wrong and it stopped after a couple of days.  Good luck

Thanks everyone.....I appreciate it!

Baxter you are adorable!  Heal fast buddy!

Hang in their Colleen.  The surface of his incision will be healed up by tomorrow if he leaves it alone.  In a few days he will be back to normal.  Hope you have had no further bleeding.  Call me if you get worried.  Anytime.

We have been lucky in that our dogs haven't bothered surgery sites.  We had a foster that chewed all the neutering stitches out more than once while wearing a cone.  Some dogs feel the itch of healing more than others I guess.
