Does anyone have insight as to whether someone like me, who has been using Picasa, would really need anything more that Photoshop Elements. What advantages does the CS have to offer. Photoshop Elements is available for a very reasonable amount while the CS versions are way too expensive, IMHO. Thanks for any input.

I am always astounded at the power of Photoshop lements, especially PSE-10.  It can do virtually everything that the full Photoshop can do (at least all that I need it to do).  It can also do a lot more than Photoshop can do in some respects.

 

I switched over to PSE-10 because I was able to get PSE-10 for $50 at COSTCO and I supplemented this program with Photoshop Lightroom-3 and the NIK Software package.  Since I was taking a community college course in Photoshop CS-5 and am now taking a course in PSE-10; I was able to get the Lightroom and NIK packages quite inexpensively.  The total cost was a lot less than the Photoshop CS-5 program, even with an educational discount! However, for most folks; the PSE-10 program is all they will ever need for processing their photos AND IT IS A BARGAIN!

 

I do have a few gripes against PSE-10 which are mainly because I don't know this program as well as I did CS-5!  The main gripe is probably "operator error" but Elements sometimes automatically seems to do things with my images that I don't want done. 

 

If you learn Photoshop Elements and use the keystrokes to control the editing, you can (if so desired) use the full Photoshop CS-5 program without a very steep learning curve.  The menu controls in both these programs are quite different but, keyboard controls (like the wonderful CTRL-Z combination for undoing the last action) are virtually identical...

Can you give a really simple idea of what the other 2 pieces of software, Lightroom and NIK allow you to do?

Will I be able to remove my friend from this pic using photoshop elements? Or does this require CS? Thanks

You could definitely remove your friend with elements either with content aware through the spot healing brush or by cloning. Cute photo.

Thanks F. Classes are starting soon at an art alliance near me and i was hoping elements would do the job. So many of my photos need something photoshopped out lol

See if Content Aware will do the trick. Just open your photo in Elements. Then click on the bandaid. Click on spot healing brush. Make sure content aware is selected on the bar at top. Then go over the areas you want removed. Wait a bit. IT should do the trick but you may have to go over it once or twice.

F, thanks for your help. My first attempt with photoshop. Just purchased Elements 11 and I think I'm going to love it.
