Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi there- I'm new here! We've had our 11 week old Irishdoodle for about a month now, and this girl LOVES leaves! We live on an acre full of trees so our yard is full of leaves! (it's impossible to keep up with clearing them, even though my husband tries) We've been bell training Riley so lately instead of ringing the bell to go potty she rings the bell to just go play in the leaves, and she eats them! She also loves sticks and pine cones. My husband and I do our best to tell her no, and get her to just go potty. This morning she threw up and not surprisingly there were leaves in her puke. Any good tricks to get her to not want to eat everything outside! I know she's a puppy and I'm pretty sure she will grow out of it, but in the mean time I don't want her getting sick! Our 4 year old mini labradoodle has no interest in eating anything outside, she'd rather just run around and have fun which I want to allow Riley to do too, but not if she's going to be a puppy vacuum out there! Thanks!

Keep her on a leash and start using the "Leave it" command (no pun intended!). When she starts to ingest something, give her a quick snap of the leash (gentle though, she is little!) and say "Leave it!" loudly and in a high voice to get her attention. Pull anything out of her mouth that she has in there and then move on. You need to get her used to pulling things out of her mouth and when you are doing that say "Drop it" so she will start to learn the words for dropping something that is in her mouth. It takes a lot of time, so be patient but keep at it!!
You may want to use a harness for training too so that you are not too rough on her neck when training.
Your doodles are very cute! Welcome to DK!!
We'll definitely try the leash. I know she doesn't prefer to go out on a leash, but it's for her own good. I need to be better with the commands too. Thanks so much for your advice, and compliments! They are a handful, but super fun!
