This is a story about how things have changed with regards to evacuations since Hurricane Katrina--pet friendly shelters and other resources now exist for those of us who absolutely could not leave our pets behind--and I KNOW that includes all of us on DK!!

I am so proud New York City's attitude towards animals - all shelters must take in people's pets. They even go as far as to make it mandatory that taxi cabs can not refuse a person with their animal during these crisis times. (0ther times they have the option of taking the fare or not) They really get it!!
I can't imagine a situation where I would leave my boys. What a dreadful dilemma to be faced with in an already difficult situation. We are very lucky that here in Ireland the most we get is lots and lots of rain and the odd snowfall, pretty boring really but knowing about hurricanes and earthquakes and other extreme weather conditions in other countries makes me feel very lucky indeed.
