Im sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere but We are about to bring Fonzie home next weekend. I am full of excitment and questions!!! I have a x large crate set up in our dinning room that is also closed off as a "pen" area for him. For nightime I had planned to buy another smaller pen to keep by our bed. What size do I need to buy?? I am guessing it does not need to be as big as the one downstairs since this will only be used for awhile until he can sleep thru the night or downstairs in his larger one ??? Help I am a little confused. Also, do they prefer thinner or fluffier mats in their crates? I hear they can get too hot with the fluffy ones. Thanks for any help!!!

Thanks everyone for all your replies. Its great to be able to have so much info at one site !!!
Our puppy is five-months old and we are using the same two crates that we used for our older dog when he was young, so they are definitely worth the investment. We have two Midwest "Select" 48-inch crates with adjustable dividers and three (removable) doors. One is in our bedroom and the other is in the family room; we will likely continue to use both until her first birthday. We have fleece pads with side bolsters in both of them. Remember to cover all of the sides except for one, so that Fonzie will feel like he's in a den. We also have a collapsable, tent-like crate for travelling. It's made by Petmate and is size XL. You would have to devise some sort of partitian to block off the extra room while Fonzie is still a puppy, since it does not come with any sort of divider. I've posted photos of both types of crates below. Also, I highly recommend purchasing a Snuggle Puppy. If you do, pick up some extra batteries, as they run out of charge pretty quickly. Enjoy him!
