Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have 2 doodles.  Ozzy 85lbs and Zoey 20lbs both are 4 years old.  They are really wacky doodles like I am sure you all know and love.  They are friendly outgoing not a problem only goofy at times.  I also have the "doodlenot" for those that know me.  Woody is soon to be 17 and health is failing.  Ozzy and Zoey have stopped playing they are acting spooked - they run up to my bed ( never would they do that if people were downstairs)  They shake and I am really starting to worry.  It seems that are scared to death of something.  Having an 85lb doodle under your feet at all times is an accident (for me) waiting to happen.  Any thoughts or ideas please HELP.  Not sure what to do.  Could it be that they sense something wrong with the older dog?????

Thanks

Nothing to do with the hurricane, right? I know your area was affected--could there be strange smells? If not, maybe they are picking something up about Woody--but I really have no idea.

Thanks Ginny - I don't think it was the hurricane.  Thank God our area is pretty good except the gas lines LOL and the doodles would not care about that.  They were a little uneasy the night of the hurricane but nothing bad in fact when the weather is bad and windy and rainy I can't get Ozzy to come inside. I think this his favorite weather.  I have never seen anything like this and I'm thinking I need a doggie shrink - or one for me for worrying too much.

how long has this been going on?  Did I read that it is both doodles or just Ozzy?

Joanne this started on Friday, way after the storm and yes both doodles at the same time.  No change at all in Woody.  This one has me stumped.

Marianne,

I know it can be busy in your area. Who knows if dogs react to barometric pressure, smells, vibes--certainly their sense of smell is extreme, but we have a long way to go to understand them.  You may not feel the stress but maybe they do.  I have no idea.  But...

My only advice, take some time for yourselves tonight.  Curl up with them. Roll them on their tummies, wrap them in blankets or a thundershirt, rub those tummies and chests, and settle in for a few.  Keep it cozy and peaceful and calm.   Stay with them, stay close.

They may be telling you to just curl up with them they need you a lot right now.

Please keep us informed.  Certainly, if you are noticing a drastic change in four-year old dogs--it is REAL

I'm really sorry.

Yes that is what I am doing. We are for sure the cartoon family both doodles in bed almost on top of me and my husband of course in the middle so I think that the humans had to about 2 inches to sleep on.LOL

Hi Marianne, I really don't have anything helpful to add but I hope you can solve this mystery. Hope the doods are back to acting normal soon, let us know how it goes.

This is strange but I guess whatever it is, both doods know about it and are trying to share.

I really don't know, but I think I would get them playing.  I'd try my best to stop worrying that there may be something upsetting them because I really believe that very perceptive dogs pick up on that.  I'd take them somewhere where they can run free and throw the ball.....get them running.  If they're exercising and playing again that should help their mood.  I think something good to chew can also help at least for a little while.  Good luck and please keep us posted.

I think this is great advice Jane!

My doodles go thru strange stages too.  About a month ago my Oliver was hanging out in the basement.  Anytime I go into the basement he always follows and my Sasha never goes down there.  But for about 2 days Ollie would not stay with Sasha and me .... when I called him he would come up stairs but then would return to the basement.  I was getting concerned but then it passed.  I know children and dogs can relate to spirits on a much higher level than adult humans.   It sounds like they are spooked about something...  I wish I could help.  When Ollie was going thru his strage basement stage I acted totally normal and just went on with my day.  I did check on him of course but I just left him in the basement because that is where he wanted to be !!!

EARTHQUAKE CONFIRMED: Seismologists confirmed a 2.2 magnitude earthquake struck in Ringwood early this morning. No injuries or damage has been reported.

I wonder if they knew???  I will see how they are today. Thanks everyone
