Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi there,

We are almost out of the bite size training treats I bought for Zoe when we brought her home so time to do some research and figure out what to buy next. For the first treats I just picked up the Train Me! treats from Petco but I'd love to know what you all use and if there are healthier alternatives out there.   I've read about freeze dried liver treats - not sure if certain brands are better?

Zoe likes the Train Me! treats just fine.  Sometimes she seems more excited about them then other times though. Is there something that your puppy just loves?

Thanks,

Jen

We use Zuke's smoked chicken treats...they are tiny & healthy

Lily loves the Halo freeze dried treats (Liv-a-Littles)-- salmon is her favorite.

I don't tend to give Hurley treats other than pieces of vegetables and fruits. But I have found a treat he really likes and I now give him one a day. You can get it at a Walmart. Wagin Tails sweet potatoe sticks wrapped in chicken.

Now that sounds good enough for me to eat!

Just wathch out for treats made in China. Wagin Tails chicken jerky is made in China.

Daphne loves the "Train Me! treats! I buy the one lb bag of chicken flavor at Petco. They are her favorite!

Seamus loves Wellness Pure Turkey treats. They are soft and can be pulled apart. Other favs include Primal Chix Nibs, Zukes Lamb Jerky, Halo freeze dried chix

My Jake loves Zukes Mini Naturals in all the flavors but Peanut Butter. In fact all my pups love them! They are made of healthy ingredients and are only 3 cals. per treat.

Zukes' is what we mostly use in salmon flavor.

Pippi really likes tiny bites of cheese, chicken liver, or hot dog. Really, really tiny! I tried coating the cheese bits with a pinch of cornstarch, which keeps them from sticking together. The liver is a little messy, but she loves it, and a little bit goes a long way.
Chance loves Zuke's mini bakes chicken 'n cherries. For recall I am using the very special Zuke's Grilled Chicken z-fillets which I cut into tiny bite size pieces. The chicken fillet is grain-free and the mini bakes are wheat & corn free.

I've had problem with Auggie's poop for a little bit so I did not want to upset his tummy with store bought treats. I still boil some chicken breasts and cut them up into tiny pieces for training. Both dogs would do anything for those and no matter how much they eat during training, I know that the treats are healthy.
