Wool over her eyes..

Hello-  I have a 14 week old Australian Labradoodle (Ollie) and I feel bad because her hair is starting to cover her eyes and I'm affraid she cant see.  Should I be trimming it or is it normal?

I always trim the hair around the eyes.  I can't imagine that any dog would be comfortable if they are having trouble seeing.

I also trim the hair around the eyes - about every couple weeks. I use a small pair of blunt nosed scissors. Sully seems to instinctually know that he needs to remain very still while I'm trimming around the eyes.

It's good to get them used to you trimming their face as a puppy.  I trim both of mine every few weeks, my Kona grows like a chia pet :)  One day I look at her and I can't find her eyes in all that face hair.

I would trim it.  Ollie can see, but not very well.  Like Wendy said, blunt nosed scissors only, the puppies are so wiggly :) 

I just trimmed Oskar's eyes a little...he's going in for his first puppy clip (just face, feet & under his tail) this week to tidy him up & to get used to the groomer.

I think this is a really good idea. Lily Grace went on Thursday for her first "meet the groomer". Her pads, sani areas, under her ears and nails were done. She smelled so good and she got her first introduction to a dryer noise. I continue to handle her feet, mouth and ears. She is brushed every day, as I think it all helps get them accustomed to people,poking at them.

Just go nice and slow and get some high value treats involved with the process too. You don't have to do it all at once if it gets overwhelming for her. At first you may just be introducing her to the scissors and not even cutting. Put a smell that she likes on them (from one of her treats). Let her associate the scissors with something pleasant. Try to make it a fun time for her and not an ordeal!  Snip & Treat that is what I called it!! LOL!  Good luck!

If you're concerned about it bring him to the groomer for a "bangs trim".   I'm a major "chicken".....I use the groomer for this.

I hate to admit this, especially since Wilson is my second doodle and I should know better, but........when Wilson was younger I didn't trim his eye hair (really it was his bangs hanging in his eyes).......I kept complaining that Wilson just didn't seem as smart as Murphy (I know, I said I was embarrassed to admit)........Anyway, I finally cut his bangs and eyes so he could see...and guess what? He learned to shake in ten minutes, and we had been trying to teach him for weeks. I know, shame on me. Duh, of course he didn't know what I was asking.......he couldn't see me.

I thought I would feel better for my confession but I really feel guilty all over again! Please don't call doodle social services on me!!!

I regularly trim the hair around Shelby's eyes.... I bought a pair of blunt tip hair scissors since I have shaky hands... Didn't want to risk poking her in the eye. Turns out she's a very good girl and sits still - as if she's saying... Please trim my eye fur..... Please!!!!
