SNOW!  That is correct - for the 1st time in 4 YEARS - I'll get to be home in Michigan for Christmas. I'm so excited as dh and I are driving up and taking Rooney & Stuart - they have NEVER EVER seen snow, so this should be fun. I'm suspecting that Rooney will not appreciate it at all and big ol Stuart is going to be crazy.  I've had dogs in snow before but they were labs and snow was never an issue - I'm worried about the doods feet with the ice and snow and also about snow clingers in their hair.   I did get them coats to help keep the dry while on walks - should I be getting some of the doggy boot things? Do they stay on their feet and what is the best brand.  Any tips or tricks would be appreciated for these Florida doods!!!!  Camilla's beautiful photos of Darwin in new snow have me so excited!!!

Hey, I didn't know Pippie Long Stockings was a member of DK hehe!!

Everyone's given you terrific suggestions, Jane. I'll add a couple of mine to the list: Jackets that cover their chests work well to protect them from getting snow clumps and street salt from attaching to their hair and bellies. If, after dunking their feet in warm water, there is still an excessive amount of snow clinging to their legs, you can place the boys on large towels and blow them dry with a hair dryer that's set to a relatively warm setting. That will help to melt off any remaining snow balls. Also, lay a big towel over their beds until they are totally dry. They will have a blast! Oh, also, you can dunk their feet into a pail of warm water whenever you come in from a walk, if the town has salted the roads -- even if nothing appears to have attached to their feet.

On a separate subject, we're looking forward to meeting up with you down in Florida this winter. I'll get to meet your Stuart and you'll get to meet Charlotte. Who would have thought a couple of years ago that we'd have four doodles between us?!

Just let me know when you'll be here - we'll have a blast!  We'll be back right after New Year's with a short stop in Atlanta (more wedding stuff - sigh).

I've gotten the boys boots to wear when we're out in the snow for extended time.  They've helped to keep the ice balls out of the pads.  Since I wasn't sure how they would like wearing them, I didn't want to spend a lot of money.  I got them the guardian soft snow boots from Alldogboots.  They served the purpose that I wanted.

Maddie catching snowballs at the dog park - no coat, no boots in the picture however she does have both to wear at certain times.  Have fun.

Catching snowballs - I hadn't thought of that - boy is Stuart going to be going NUTS!!!

Mine have never seen snow either and I am so envious of the snow pictures I see others get. I can't wait to see yours with Stuart and Rooney's reactions to the cold, white stuff. I suspect we would have similar reactions from Clancy (Stuart) and Ned (Rooney).

It has not snowed much where I am in the past couple of years but Jake absolutely adores the snow and I can't wait to see how Baxter does with it.  I have used the blow dryer but it just takes too long to melt everything off.  Now I line the laundry room with towels for him to melt on, put up a gate and place a small heater outside the gate and turn on full blast.  I stay right there to make sure it does not get too hot.  He used to hate all of the snow barnacles clinging to him but after a while he would just relax and enjoy the warm air.

Awww - how cute is that!!!

I use the Mushers Secret also.  I find it makes them slide on the floor so I put it on in the garage before we go out.  By the time they are back in the house, it's not an issue.

How nice that you and the doodles will have a White Christmas this year! I hope you'll post some videos of Stuart doing snow zoomies, I'm sure he will! Rooney may surprise you, too.

JD doesn't wear boots or coats in the snow, and he does fine with it. As others have mentioned, if they're out in deep snow for a period of time, they do get snowballs on their legs and feet, but your warm hands and a towel will get most of that off and the rest melts pretty quick once they're inside.

Jane the doods are gonna love the snow but be careful what you ask for.
