Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hey everyone.. i have a 7 month old Goldendoodle.. he is about 65 pounds now and is very wild..he jumps on everyone.. counter surfs.. and is VERY mouthy still!! i am contemplating getting an electric collar..set on VERY low just for in the house use.. when he is jumping up on people and nipping and things of that nature.. he goes to puppy classes has a trainer and gets several walks a day. this behavior is just not acceptable, as i cannot even have friends over the house. if i ever have a child he cannot be nipping and jumping like he is now.. he is in a teenage bratty stage i guess and is refusing to listen to me. anyways has anyone tried one of these collars? if so how did it work.. which did u use? and when will this behavior stop?? at what age?? thanks again

The term 'certified trainer' keeps getting tossed around. But what does that mean, because last I checked there is no official credentialing organization that is 'best' and the best trainers I've met have no 'certification'

I would want a trainer who has Titled dogs in Obedience Trails.   Not just one, but many.    I want a trainer who can AND wants to train HUMANS!  Certified or not. Those titles speak for themselves.  They did not get there from a 6week internet course, and by making a website and calling themselves a trainer because they paid the site money.

Show  me the proof of what you have accomplished as a trainer.

I agree.  I just wanted everyone to clarify their meaning since the term "certified" is really not one with real meaning of its own.  Dogs titled in obedience is my personal gold standard.   There are some well known accreditation agencies but they just accredit based on a written test.  Who would want to get operated on by a surgeon who had never actually done surgery successfully but passed a written test? NOT me!  Of course dog training is not equally risky, but a trainer that can show results based on a standard real life test is what I'd be looking for too.

So I'm just reading over all these great responses and wondering what you're planning to do as a next step?  Do you think your current trainer is going to be qualified t help you make the changes that will really make a difference?  What will you be doing tomorrow that's different?

Good questions, Jane.

well heres what i got tonight.. i made Midas do a down stay for about 3 minutes with his food bowl filled.. and then i released him to eat.. he had to sit in his crate and stay for a few minutes before i released him.. he had to sit and stay until i walked out the door to go on a walk.. i was praising him for just laying there and being a good boy.. and when he shoved toys on me i wouldnt pick them up until he dropped them..

Great start!

That's wonderful!

Awesome!

Sounds like you are off to great start!  Keep up the good work!

Great Job, keep on going!  I always said I was a "commercial trainer" I trained the dogs while the commercials were on TV, just enough time for a down stay, sit stay and anything else you want to practice on.  I guess that doesn't work so well if you have commercial free shows though....:)

haha thats a good idea!! lol  i made him sit and stay for a minute this morning before breakfast.. and he started to drool and it broke my heart! lol..so i let him eat haha
