Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I'm obsessing over the different coat types because Wispa doesn't fit into any strict category.  I look up coat type photos and i see pristine examples of fleece coats or wool coated doodles that looks just like poodles, and then every hair coat we see seems to have a labrador coat with some wiry hair.

Wispa is none of these!  Or all of these?

See what I mean?

Ok, ok, I guess it could be down to her still having a changing puppy coat, it's just that I've seen other puppies her age (4 months) with much curlier, fleecier, or flatter hair coats.

I'd love to know she's not alone in being a mixed up coated doodle :)  And I think she's super cute because of it!  Scruffy, but non-shedding, and super easy to groom so far *fingers crossed*

gavins coat looks a lot like my Midas... how come they turn whiter? check out my pics..midas was golden as a puppy.. and then we had to give him a haircut at 4 months because me neighbors pitbull came off leash and attacked Midas and he needed stitches..so they shaved the wound area and people kept staring at him because he was so fluffy everywhere else and it looked like he was missing a part of his hind leg because of where they shaved him..so we shaved him down.. and it seems he gets lighter and lighter.. Gavin is adorable btw! how much does he weigh?

Thanks Chels.  Gavin is 75 lbs, fairly svelt and quite tall (29in at the shoulder - think skinny pony).

Oh my gosh, she's sooo cute!  My doodle has the strangest assortment of fur.  He has a stripe on his back of adult fur that's a bit coarse and doesn't seem to shed much, but then his sides are pure puppy-fluff, and it sheds like mad!  Then he's super curly on his neck and ears, but flat on his back and legs.  He's like a franken-doodle.

Haha, franken-doodle!

Copernicus is adorable, too!  He looks so SOFT!  The coarse curly fur on Wispa's back started out as a small stripe, actually, and then spread.  And just this evening I felt around her neck that she has really thick really soft wavy fur there!  Yet another different texture on my dood :)

At 4mo Charlie had lovely wavy fur. That was before she turned into a poodle. :)

This sounds like the same issue I am having, although my poor little Maizie gets super matted and everything sticks to her!.

I have 2 doodles that are sisters from the same litter. Mollye, Has retirever fur with an undercoat, semi straight,  a bit of shedding, but no matting problems and little upkeep.

Maizie on the other hand, has very soft, fine, fur like hair, no undercoat, not very curly and definitely scruffy. In fact, my daughter thinks she looks "homeless" not "designer!" She does not shed to speak of, but Im having a horrible time with matting and upkeep. I feel so sorry for her because she wants to run through the woods and swim in the lake, but comes out filled with sticks, leaves and sticker bushes.

I am wondering if this is just her puppy coat, when does the adult coat start to come in, what products whould I use on her and if anyone else is having this same issue.

Thanks!

Kelly

Darwin's coat isn't curly like a lot of Doodles, it stays straight, doesn't really get matted at all and sheds a little bit.  I actually really like it, it wasn't what I was expecting but I love him and it works for us.  It's low maintenance that's for sure!  He's only 8 months so only time will tell.

He is completely adorable! I want to kiss his face off! What a sweety!

In the photo, it looks like what is called a 'broken coat'. Could be more Retriever showing up. She is absolutely adorable, BTW.
