Has anyone had a Chese-doodle? (Chesepeke Bay Retriever and std poodle)

HELP! Have a female that is a year old, 81lbs and is very shy and sound sensitive. Willful, playful at times but like I said VERY shy. She has a 4 year old labradoodle sis and a seven year old mini poodle sis that she is very outgoing with and naturally playful.

Although she is very sweet, I feel like she is being gaurded most of the time, which i do not understand. it's like she holds back a big part of herself.  Can some one help me with this. I think she is missing out on a lot and I don't know how to get her out of her shell.

Many of us have dogs who are guarded, shy, and just NOT that "Doodles are so friendly, Playful, Happy, Friendly, Friendly" dogs we so often hear being said about the breed.  Just not true.  Doodles are dogs.

They are animals.  Many animals are guarded if you think about it.    There are things we have tried in the group : medications, pheromones, massages, etc.

If she seems happy in her pack, that is a great thing~!   My questions are:  Shy from what? People, other dogs, you?  Keep her safe. She is counting on you for protection from the world.

Thanks for the tip and perhaps I will join. I have NEVER had a shy dog before. She is so shy that if anything is out of place in the house, she tells us or goes and sits in her "safe spot". Needless to say that C'mas is bringing about many visits to her safe spot.

She is extremely happy. Just gaurded. My husband thought she was "just not very bright". Not so! Extremely intelligent and her cognitive reasoning is better than most of the pups I've had. We're older-Bob is 65 and I'm 55, so there is not a lot of loud things in our lives. She walks with me every day and the town sounds don't bug her. It's just when we are at home. I know this sounds nuts....

Jerri, I also had a dog who appeared-Not too bright.  I thought about it so much, I concluded, she was too bright with a paranoid attitude. It was this combination that made her this way.  She was easy to train, a wonderful girl, and she never missed a noise or a new item in her world

It does not sound nuts and I understand particular sounds. My girl was so bad, any sound made, she would hold her bathroom for days.  I had to check outside before letting her out, etc. But other sounds, didn't phase her. You just never know.  And, you have to respect them for who they are~ animals.

I sympathize with the Christmas decorations!  Kind of chuckling too.  Some dogs, just hate the Change. They love their routine. 

There is a REALLY funny blog abuot a dog named VERN who is afraid of lawn chairs. Let me find it. Certainly, his fears will make you feel better and make you laugh too

Hi Joanne!

Sydney thinks the balloons are birds and she loves them! She likes the motorized gliders too which seem to be around here in abundance. Vern! How funny!!! Reminds me SOOOO much of Syd!

Today Syd discovered that birds can be down by the ground in bushes...Since I had Molly with her and both of them on harnesses, let's just say that after I got back up off the ground and dusted myself off, I discovered that doodles CAN BE VERY strong! LOL!

Ha ha, it's always about Vern isn't it!

Daisy is a lot like your girl, very timid and anxious at times and not so much other times. I have learned to let the thought go that she is missing out, she really isn't. She loves her close friends, her family and her home....she does not know there is more.

Hi Lisa- I used to think that she didn't know there is more, I was wrong. We live in a semi rural area and they can see that there is more. Not only that, she hides when people come to visit with their pups for play dates. See what I mean about missing out? Our other two dogs are very outgoing and she is ONLY outgoing with them.

Although I realize I can't force her to come out of her shell, I can see there is so much more to her and I can see that she wants to but she is not letting herself. It is almost comical to watch...She is so big and such a beauty you would just assume by her size and stature that she would have that "BIG" way about her as well.

Wish you would show me a picture. I had a Mastiff/Lab Mix but was told on many occasions that he was more of a Chese/Mastiff mix because of the slight curl of fur in a line along his spine.  I bet, she would LOVE a swim!   :)
