Any suggestions for high reward treats? We've used a number of things in the past, chicken works well but is so messy, a bit expensive, and work to boil up. We have also used string cheese which works wel, but has lost some value recentlyl. Our old trainer used frozen precooked meatballs thawed (for people), but even I don't eat those! Our current trainer cuts off chunks from Natural Balance Rolls which we were thinking of doing, but I don't see the rolls referenced here on the food group, and they are not rated highly (2 stars) on dogfoodanalysis. Right now BB is on a grain free diet (previously TOTW, currently trying out Orijen), so while he has no aversion to grain, is it silly to give him treats with grain?

We need to practice obedience at a distance and recall, both requiring high reward treats for Bonne Bouche. His normal dry treats aren't very enticing during these training sessions and we're trying to find a higher value treat for these particular sessions...

Thanks in advance

Tara will do anything for freeze dried liver.  It's a dry, clean easy to manage treat that can be broken into small pieces if need be.

def check out the freeze dried liver!

Our high value treats are all beef hot dogs cut into small pieces, and bits of mozzarella cheese

thanks Camilla, probably would be a good idea to switch it up between chicken and beef hot dogs to keep it "fresh". ;-]

Join the DK Cookbook   :)   I swear by Spud's Budder Bites and FJ's Liver recipes.  Even Spud, not food motivated, responds to those treats.

Or, order them from NINA!

Thanks Joanne!

I use the natural balance rolls from time to time because they can be cut to any size piece that you want.  The roll is pretty inexpensive and lasts a long time.

They're loaded with wheat and sugar, though. I don't know how it compares cost wise, but if you want a roll type product, i'd take a look at Fresh Pet instead. The ingredients are much better, and they have one line, Vital, that's grain-free. But even the lines that contain rice are much better than the NB rolls.

I am few months late on commenting on this post; however, I wanted to add that we use the Pet Fresh Vital as treats and have received great response from our doodle. It spoils quickly so I buy a 3lb bag and freeze it into seperate servings and as I take each bag out of the freezer to use I write the date so I know when it's been 7 days since it's thawed out. I believe the bag states good up to 7 days after opening the package. We are able to cut each piece into at least 3 or 4 tiny pieces. It works great and I feel good about not feeding our dog unhealthy treats for training.

I thought (I'm so new here, and never owned a dog, but we're getting our Goldendoodle in June, he should be delivered any day now!) doodles were not supposed to have beef?  I was looking at this line of food online and its has a chicken, beef, chicken liver, salmon roll.  Am I mistaken?

I cannot imagine where you heard that doodles should not have beef, or what possible reason anyone could have for saying that, but that's absolutely untrue and frankly, doesn't make any sense.
