I have been dehydrating Beef Jerky for quite some time to use as treats and our Doodles are crazy for it. I am happy to know that it is all natural, home made and not from China.
I would appreciate knowing what cut of meat others who home make beef Jerky use. I have tried several lean cuts but have no idea what cut makes the best Jerky > Please advise.

I will look the next time I go to the store. I know I sometimes buy a regular roast and ask the butcher slice it thinly. But I mostly buy these really thin cut slices of beef that I just cut into 1 inch strips. I don't recall what the packaging says, though. The jerky pieces are pretty thin that way; the boys like it. You migh want to join the Food group since I believe we've had several discussions about dehydrating your own treats.
There's a whole discussion on making homemade jerky and all kinds of other dehydrator treats, in The Food group, with recipes.
thank you
LOL, I cannot even imagine the stench. I usually bake liver treats and have to cook the liver before. Ick! The whole house stinks.
Can someone put the link to the recipes? I searched and couldn't find the dehydrated recipes
Thanks!!
You have to search in the Food Group discussions, not the general DK search.

I have only done chicken and sweet potatoes in mine. I will have to try beef. I think I will pass on the liver smell until Spring when I can open the windows. I would think though, that the dogs would love any cut of meat dehydrated.
I have used top round but find it is getting very expensive laately
I finally found on the net the most to the least desirable cuts to use for beef Jerky. The least amount of fat possible is primary and the following cuts are what was suggested:
Thanks. Pricey I'd think.
